I have had an RTL-SDR but I am thinking of getting something better. One question I had was this, will an SDR be able to follow trunked systems? How about simulcast? I am looking at a SDRPlay DUO if it makes a difference (is there something else I should consider?).

Thanks!

I'm using three Airspy R2's and they work great. The SDRplay Duo is a great SDR but is overkill for what you need. From the SDRplay line the RSP1B is adequate. I went with the Airspy for scanning stuff because if I remember correctly the SDRplay did't work with all the different software I wanted to used. I chose the Airspy over the RTL because having 10mhz of bandwidth requires me to only need one unit to cover what I wanted rather than the multiples required from RTLs. That made setting up things less complicated.

SDR will follow trunked systems and is good with simulcast.

Which antenna would you recommend for the Airspy? Also, do you have any experience puttinng on the network via a Raspberry Pi?

Thanks!

I use a pair of yagis which I've been using for a long time and dont remember the brand or other info about them.

I haven't used a raspberrypi for it before. I do know there are some doing so though.
