I use sdr sharp and tried emailing them and looking at their website and googling it just gives me too much confusion. I want to fully uninstall the program to do a clean install. anyone knew how to do that on a win vista computer. its not listed in the programs list in control panel.

Or a Windows 7 platform as well. I did a computer update a few weeks ago and now it doesn't recognize anything when trying to connect to sdr#

Managed to save my frequency favourites to put back in later but for now I too am looking to figure out how to do a fresh uninstall and re-install.

Thanks :)

Go here and download the automated install files.
http://sdrsharp.com/downloads/sdr-install.zip

Unzip the three files in that zip file.

Then doubleclick on the 'install.bat' file that was unzipped.
Give it some time to finish downloading all the files.

That will create a folder named 'sdrsharp' that contains everything you need.
And you can run it from that folder if you want.

You also need to do this:
Install the driver (zadig) per instructions here.

http://zadig.akeo.ie/

You should be good to go.

But, you also need to make sure you have .net framework 3.5 installed.

Edit: Some additional zadig info if you have problems....

What do you want to uninstall?
You can just delete the folder that contains SDR#.

If you have a problem with the zadig driver, just re-install it.

After following all the steps, and I go to open the program, I get this message:

RTL devices was found, but could not open. Used by another application or Zadig not installed?

So just deleting the file its in will fully delete it from the computer?

Yes, that will completely remove SDR#.

What kind of problems are you having?

I've been running SDR# on eleven computers. XP and Win7 64 bit and I never had to remove anything.

I just download the most recent build and then propagate it to all of my computers after testing it for a while.
I have backups of the last 15 versions or so.

In fact, the Win7 computer I'm on right now has SDR# installed in 12 different folders for a lot of dongles and digital decoding purposes.

More than likely, it's a driver problem.

If you look in the Hardware Manager, do you see this for your USB device?

No. I see USB Reciever (Interface 0)

More than likely, it's a driver problem.

After completely removing all the files/folders etc...I did a complete reboot of my machine. and reinstalled everything again.

Now when I go to start SDRSharp I get error message:

1 compatible devices have been found but are all busy.

Yep, that's not right.

If you tried using the CD that may have come with the dongle, that's not what you should do.
It would try to install a driver to receive European digital tv.

You must install the zadig driver per the instructions at the link in my previous post.

You should also try unplugging the dongle for ten seconds or so and then plug it back in.

The software did see the device but couldn't access it.

If your USB port is underpowered, the dongle show all kinds of erratic problems.

For that reason, I run all of mine using powered USB hubs. I've never had a problem since.

I've done everything, followed all the instructions, and still when I go to start the program, it still won't go. Say's it's busy already or already in use.

I went in further, and this is what I found:

Driver Provider: libusbx.org
Driver Date: 18/06/2013
Driver Version: 6.17600.16385
Digital Signer: USB\VID_046D&PID_C52B&MI_00 (libwdiautogenerated)

More than likely, it's a driver problem.

You did select 'RTL-SDR / USB' from the drop down box?

If you unplug the dongle, wait 10 seconds, and then plug it back in, no other software should be using it.

I'd still suspect a driver installation problem. (you did run zadig in administrator mode?)

rtl_test may help explain what's happening.

Yes, I did.

on the test, I get

rtl_test.exe - System Error

The program can't start because rtlsdr.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

But the .dll is in the correct folder thought.

rtl_test.exe should be in the same folder as SDRSharp.

rtlsdr.dll is one of the files downloaded by the SDR# install.bat

It also uses some other files in that same folder. (libusb)

At this point my best guess is that the driver didn't properly install.

rtl_test should be running ok before you go any further.

That is the simplest case and that eliminates SDR# from the equation.

found the problem...ughh...

When doing the Zadig thing, I had to choose. RTL2838UHIDIR instead of the USB Reciever (USB Interface 0)

This part is what through me off as I have an RTL 2832 I think it is, so it's named wrong here. When I first started out with SDRSharp I was to use the USB Reciever (USB Interface 0), guess that's not the case now.

All good now, got it running and working, and I notice it's a new version now.

Thanks for the help with all this. Now I can finally getting back to using this after a few week hiatus from doing so because of these problems.

Again, thanks.
