Hey SDR guys quick question about SDR and a Amazon fire tablet. Is it possible to set up SDR with an Amazon fire tablet. Looking to re purpose my kids old tablet into somthing I can still use. I have 2 RTL SDR dongles and a usb hub how can I make it work? Also would I be possible to run SDR trunk on it? Thanks in advance.

Android tablets do have some simple sdr tuner apps. Search the Amazon or Google play store. You will need an On The Go cable to connect to the rtl sdr dongle. I am not aware of any scanner type android apps that use the rtl sdr.

You need a tablet that supports USB Host Mode and has the processing power to utilize the SDR along with a USB adapter for your device.
If you're running stock Kindle you're going to be limited in what you can run.

In your opinion is it better to go the raspberry pi with the software & sdr and use the tablet to connect and control the programs route?

If you have the room in space for it, yes a thousand percent just because you have so much more options in terms of software as well as hardware support.

On Android you can only use the RTL, the hack RF and a couple scenarios and I believe SDR play has a driver now but that's it whereas raspberry pi you can use literally anything else there on the market.

Your main concern is going to be your power budget and portability using a raspberry pi.
