Hi folks,

Historically I have always enjoyed the SDRPlay devices, but never could get past the software. I've just never been a fan of SDRUno, and even SDRConnect is not my cup of tea. I have wound up selling off SDRPlay equipment in the past for that reason.

While at HamX in Marlboro MA this past weekend, I was speaking with a person who brought this software to my attention. I went and checked it out and decided to take the chance as it was only $9.99 for a year. I'm glad I did.

I am using SDRCom Blue with my SDRPlay nRSPST networked SDR. This is a web based app that connects to the SDR via the web API the company released. It requires you to run SDRConnect Headless, which is an .exe file that should install with SDRConnect 1.07 or later unless you tell it not to during the install. Running it from the folder that SDRPlay is installed in opens a command window that you can minimize. When done using the interface, a CTRL-C closes it.

As to the interface, once you're registered, it runs via either a link in your browser or can run from the SDRCom.com website, which will recognize you and allow for connection from there. The connection resides entirely on the PC; in other words you must run the web browser on the same PC as you're running the headless SDRConnect. Once you do this, it will recognize that you have an SDRConnect device on the PC, or in my case connected via LAN. Connecting from there gives you a pretty cool interface that controls just about everything SDRConnect software does, but in a much prettier and receiver-like format.

There is a LOT to this interface and it is surely a work in progress. For example, I discovered that some of the step sizes required for various VHF and UHF bands in the US were missing (2.5 kHz and 6.25 kHz, for example). I sent the author an email asking if these could be added at some point. Well, two hours or so later I received an email back that they were indeed added, along with a 7.5 kHz step and a user definable step size shown as "custom". That's great service!

The app also has some interesting decoders. FT8, FT4, CW, SSTV, WSPR, and ADS-B are currently available. While I likely won't use any of them, of great interest to me are a few of the grayed out decoder buttons, hopefully indications of things to come. Two of those three are DMR and P25. The third is YSF. I'm looking forward to seeing more about that as this develops. It also currently has a way to pipe audio out using a virtual audio cable so it could drive DSD+ for digital mode decoding and/or KG-Tone for CTCSS and DCS decoding, although it would be ideal if the app itself could do CTCSS/DCS. Maybe that can be added.

It also has scanning capability. I haven't tried that yet and would likely not use it as I have a ton of hardware scanners already. It has a ton of memory slots, a really cool S-meter that can be displayed in a few different manners and positions. There are different receiver interfaces as well, regional band selectors, DX band activity. It's loaded with features.

I am in no way affiliated with this, just a very interested user happy to see a cool interface for the SDRPlay devices. It will work with any of them that SDRConnect supports, which means all except for the original RSP1 device.

SDRcom — Browser SDR for RTL-SDR & Web Receivers - SDR Blue will be on the right of the page.

I don't see a lot of info out there regarding this yet so I thought I'd share it here. There is a version that will work with RTL dongles as well, and a network version that offers connectivity to SDR devices worldwide. There is also a "lite" version that integrates with Hamdash.
