Relatively new to SDR with hopefully a quick question for the group regarding SDRTrunk with 2 dongles. I have everything up and running with SDRTrunk using 2 dongles monitoring one County P25 trunk system. Reception is great and no issues with locking on a Control channel. My first dongle shows Enabled and locked on a center frequency of the P25 system I'm monitoring. The second dongle however shows unlocked with a frequency of 101.10000. See screen capture below.

My question is whether or not I need to adjust the frequency of the second dongle to a control channel of the P25 system? Or is it normal for the second dongle to appear as it shows in the screen capture until SDRTrunk needs to use it? FYI - Each dongle already has a separate serial number assigned.

Thanks in advance!

The default tuned frequency is 101.1000 until the dongle is needed. If it never changed, then either a) the site you're monitoring doesn't require more than one dongle or b) there is something wrong with the dongle

Thanks very much. Based on my observations of the system I'm monitoring, I believe it's choice (a). Much appreciated

Which VIPER site are you monitoring? I'm looking at 4 sites in Brunswick County and curious what the frequency spread is at your local site.

Thanks. Should have shared that earlier. I'm using the Bolivia site. Using that site for a Broadcastify Calls stream from SDRTrunk.

Interesting site. That oddball 856 control channel is quite a bit higher than the rest of the frequencies, so I assume that the 853 control channel is the one normally active if only one of your dongles is being used thus far, and the 851 channel is probably set to BSI so it won't be used unless absolutely necessary. That means most of your action is happening on the 852.175-853.875 channels, well within the bandwidth of a single dongle.

Thanks again. You are right on the money about the 853 control channel being the active one! And yes, the activity is all on the 852.175-853.875 channels. Guess I have an extra dongle that will go unused on this site!

If the control channel rolls to the 856 channel, you'll need both dongles for sure. Even that 851 channel is just outside of the 2.4 MHz bandwidth of the dongle, so if the site gets busy it could use it for that as well.
