If anyone wants to change the delay between messages you can do it without computer.
Lock channel you want press E then on edit channel scroll down to set delay click on it then click on set delay next screen adjust delay. I wouldn't go with-5 or -10 because it will cut off message before it is done I found that 0 is the best .

I have always used the 2 - delay. curious what others are using

I think most folks who are old hands at scanning would probably say that a two second delay is pretty much standard because that's what most of us grew up with. The fact that newer units allow for a per-channel programmable delay is really great--- here in NYC for the inputs to PD and FD channels, I sometimes increase as to not miss something of interest which is local to me.

We probably owe the default 2 second delay time to Uniden, although I seem to recall some older crystals-controlled units also had a built-in, non-adjustable 2 second delay as well. I think. Maybe.

Now embarrassingly I must admit that I have become so used to programming my SDS units with my laptop, that if I had to walk over right now and change the delay time on any particular channel I might have to think for a moment or two about how to do it.

I had forgotten the old crystall radios all had a non-adjustible delay of 2. You are probably right about where the original two originated from.
back in the 60's, I had a 4-ch regency with the crystals. I came from a "tuneable" scanner, and thought the crystals controlled scanner were the greatest and so clear. what more could a person want ???

I have an old RCA 16S400 or something like that. It's a 10 channel xtal scanner that covers the four main bands.
It has a variable delay that's adjustable from zero to about 6 seconds. Of course the delay setting is common for all channels.

I usually set it at 2 or 3 seconds which works out pretty well for what I monitor.
All my other xtal models were the standard zero or two second delay.
Most used a simple electrolytic cap to set the delay time when delay was turned on. I've increased the delay in several of the old things by swapping out the cap for one with a higher value. The higher the cap value, the longer it took to charge or discharge.

With a delay of 0, you will miss a lot of replies. I use 2 seconds.
It doesn't change that fast I have mine on zero and I have no problem with conversations cutting off. If you put a negative 5 or negative 10 then you have them cut off too soon
