I’m new to the SDS-100 and noticed with I believe the battery saver or dim setting the display is dark except when there is a call.

I noticed the LED is flashing magenta periodically. Is this just an automatic indicator for battery saver or do I need to change settings To eliminate it.

just curious.

my other enabled LEDs work normal based on my channel I selected for that notification option.

How long do you have the display timer set for? You can set it so that the screen will turn on for 10 seconds when it receives a transmission and then turn off. I think when the screen is dark the blue light will blink every 5 seconds to let you know the scanner's on. I don't have an SDS100 but that's what I understand of how it works.

It's good as an indicator that a conversation starts by having the display light up when it starts, but other than that it doesn't do much to preserve battery life as the rest of the scanner demands so much power. I have my display set to always on. That way I see it doing scanning as it supposed to do and not stuck by some reson or the other. SDS scanners stop on bad signals that triggers the signal detect but doesn't open the squelch so there's no sound when it is stuck on a channel.

I don't recall my SDS200 scanner stopping or getting stuck on a "bad signal". I occasionally have my SDS100 stop for a Close Call hit, but that is an expected behavior while out in my mobile.

You can set the backlight based on a squelch timer of 5, 10, 15 seconds or open squelch. The two LED indicators above the display indicate charge status (right LED; red when charging, green when charged) and channel alert indication (left LED) color is set based on your programming preference, e.g., fire - RED, police - BLUE, EMS - GREEN, etc. John KD9PQM

One of the LED’s can also be set to flash when the display is dark. As I noted earlier in the thread and is what the OP was experiencing.
