Hi All,

I have recently taken possession of my SDS 100. And while I fear the answers, it doesn't hurt to ask. First, is there any possible way to change the volume without having to press down first? Second, is dual receive an option i.e. listen to two channels at once. All for now.

Thanks.

What month is it?
Both already answered (no and no)

However, via Proscan, you can control everything on the radio via a serial (Comm port) connection without touching it

Thanks everyone for the responses.

Proscan is great, if I'm not out and about. Maybe a software update from Uniden would allow for customization of the volume knob. Its the first radio I've ever owned that requires an action before changing the volume. Should be able to turn the dial for instant volume. A major pain and flaw in my opinion.

Doesn’t seem like that big of a deal to me. There are more significant deficiencies to fret about. But then again, I leave my volume on 8 all the time and have it plugged into car stereo aux input so I can adjust volume on stereo.

Turning the dial allows you to scroll off an active channel/TG or change scan direction, pressing down prevents accidentally adjusting the volume. I'm glad they designed in this "flaw".

I guess it depends on the application. I'm all for customization-always room for improvement.

I can't remember if there was a scanner or a 2-way radio that you could configure in the scanners/radios menu what would be prioritized without pushing the button, channel shift or volume. For 2-way radios it is important to not accidently switch talkgroup and it's the volume that are prioritized. On scanner it might be important to quickly leave a non interesting conversation and continue to scan or to quickly change volume as different systems can have very different sound volumes, especially if a scanner doesn't have audio AGC like the SDS100.

That's a great feature to be put on the wish list for firmware upgrades or for the future scanners.

That makes absolute sense. As a user of more commercial radios, I'm used to this feature. It's always a bit of an adjustment when operating my scanner or ham radio. Too I fully understand the people who scan freq and look to make a quick jump. Rather I tend to sit on one or two channels. Again, customization is great. I'd like to see the dial treated as a button where you can set what it does. Especially in the scanner world because we each use it for a different purpose.

I imagine to design/engineer a scanner with the level of flexibility you desire, might be pretty costly. Especially at beta testing time. Then there is the additional time from concept to public release.

And then from a user standpoint, we see many folks commenting how complicated/complex programming the scanner is at present. Adding the greater level of flexibility and options would multiply that exponentially.

It is very unlikely that any scanner can be made that will make each and every purchaser perfectly happy.
