Just went to MTC and dropped the SDS100 in the cart to see the price...
That is an excellent price... That will be hard to beat from anywhere else...

Good price on the SDS100, but didn't see a 200. Good site though. Saved for future stuff.

OK ive decided on the SDS100 but my question is, on the Uniden Bearcatt site it list a 49buck software upgrade package, Is this really nesscary,, i though you can just punch in a zip code..... I dont mind paying if its worth it. I assume if you purchase the scanner form another dealer this option wouldn't be available, i am mainly interested in my County stuff btw

Your scanner will work right out of the box!

Uniden Custom Programmers will add county programming to your scanner. We remove the guesswork, tedium, and frustration from from manually programming your scanner for your area. Our programming department will preload your selected county/counties public safety frequencies so all you have to do is turn it on.

Your new scanner will work right out of the box.

Included :

  • Firmware update (if applicable)
  • Frequency database update
  • Favorites List setup containing public safety channels

Sounds like you might be talking about the paid upgrades.

The scanner will work right out of the box but it will not decode any DMR, NXDN or Provoice. To decode those, you would need the upgrade. Look in the database for your area and see if anyone you want to listen to use NXDN, DMR or Provoice.

Many of these place will also offer to create favorites lists for you, for a fee.

Good price on the SDS100

Does one need to sign up an register? I stuck a 100 and 200 in cart and they are normal prices. 649 and 699.

No need to pay someone else to program your scanner. No need to purchased paid upgrades (DMR, NXDN, or ProVoice) unless your local area utilizes one or multiple of those modes for communications that you want to monitor. Purely up to you.

You can buy it, hook it up to a computer and use the free Uniden Sentinel software to update the database, enter your zip code, set a reasonable range (0-5 miles is advised), and you'll be up and going for analog and P25 traffic.

You're seeing that on the Bearcat Warehouse website. While they do sell Uniden scanners, there is no connection between them and Uniden itself.

You can do all of the above yourself, in less than 30 minutes, with a coffee break included, and save the $49.99. What they will do for "programming" is simply append the systems in your county to a Favorites list. Unless they are in your metro area, which they are not (you're in Florida, they are in Maryland), they have no idea exactly which systems are in use in your area other than what shows in the RadioReference database. Using Sentinel, you can verify whether or not your scanner has the latest firmware version.

Install Sentinel & update the database in the program. Set your Favorites list service types in your Sentinel Profile. Set your location (also done in your profile).

You can pick & choose any of these items and append it to a newly created Favorites list with a <right><click> of your mouse.

Or, once you update the database in Sentinel, then write that to the scanner, you can simply choose the service types you want, set your current, correct, location, and start scanning using the main database along with your location & range.

It's not really that hard. Just get used to how these scanners are set up, and it will all fall into place for you, what some call the 'light-bulb moment, when it starts to make perfect sense to you.
