I have a 436HP that is meeting my needs in Buffalo. I think the only simulcast here is from the NFTA, but not sure. Is there any reason to get an SDS for listening in Buffalo or Erie County? Do any locals have the SDS that can attest to any improvements (besides the display) here over the HP?

No, I only have the 436 which meets my needs. I was thinking of getting a base model at some point. The 536 would be a great choice as would the 996P2 for me. Realistically, I’m listening to Buffalo police, fire, and EMS and that’s basically it.

I'm guessing that with all those UHF frequencies it's only a matter of time until the County builds a TLMR system, maybe even joining forces with Niagara County. It makes sense, especially with an increasing need for interoperability across town and county borders. I've owned the SDS200 since it came out, pricey, but by far the best scanner that I have ever owned. It's worth every penny, it's as good as any Moto radio that I've owned. Future proof your scanner collection...
