Hi,

I've searched the manuals, threads, and anything else I can find, but don't find the answer to this:

I would like to set my SDS100 and 200 up to review more service types (i.e. corrections and federal), but I don't want to also include the associated VHF and UHF listings with each of those. Doing so results in L-O-N-G delays scanning VHF and UHF assignments that aren't used, in some cases for years.

Is there a simple way to simply include the service-type-related trunk groups on Statewide systems without creating complex favorite lists?

Yes. Only activate those service types you want. Or, if you elect for the auto download you can choose only that which you want to populate your FL(s).

If you're using the Zip-Code method of programming try setting the Range to 2 miles and see if that helps.

Nope no easier way. Yep, create your first favorites list and turn the Full DB off and only scan the FL('s) that's the only way to take full control and also how you scan only that which you desire to scan.. In your case don't include anything but the trunking system in an FL w/o those pesky unused analog frequencies stealing you away from the action you want to hear. :geek:

@antennaman I accomplish what you are asking by: Go ahead and begin scanning. When the scanner comes to one of those empty systems, click the system hold button. Then click Avoid. Unclick the system hold button. Next time around, it doesn't stop there. I haven't power cycled the SDS100 for a long time. I think that's the way I do it.

That will work... Until the next time you update your DB on the scanner.

No need to channel hold, double push on avoid (Permanent Avoid) and you are good until you update the database or favorites list.

If you avoid something in Sentinel, it will persist through database updates.

If I understand you correctly, you want to monitor 800 systems for corrections and federal traffic, but not UHF/VHF corrections and federal channels?

If so, I don't think the scanner is "smart" enough to differentiate Service Types based on frequency. You are doomed to some Favorites List work unfortunately.

You can't use service types to filter system type. That's not what they're intended for. They define categories of traffic, not categories of system types. Larger systems may have channels tagged with pretty much every service type, and a given service type may be carried by any system type.

A much better approach is to learn how to do system- and department-level avoids on the system(s) you're not interested in.
