Hi ALL, my antenna on the sds100 doesn't tighten, just gets snug then spins endlessly. its brand new and i need to know (A)if this is normal (B) has anyone else had this issue and (C) by changing out antennas will there be a broken connection inside unit to antenna base?

Sounds to me like something is broken inside or perhaps a backing nut came loose. I haven't been inside an SDS100, but there is typically a copper wire center conductor that will continue to twist until it fatigues or something else breaks.

OK i figured there was a wire inside or some kind of conductor. Sucks, now BCW is telling me to ship this back with note in box ONLY THEN will they ship new radio. So i should definitely send back for new radio?? I've had it 6 freakin' days!! Cant imagine the wire gauge being less than 22awg

yes already spoke to them, gotta send this back before new one sent out. Fear is the stock is limited ill be waiting til christmas

Send it back now and let them ship out a new one. It's really your most logical option, especailly since you spoke to them and made those arrangements already. There is a second option--- that they ship another unit immediately and charge your card for the second radio and then just credit back your card for the original when the defective radio returns, but most dealers will not be that accommodating. A third option would have been to send it back for a full refund and buy a new unit somewhere else.

The sucky thing is that you get hit with the return shipping cost. Some dealers will issue a pick-up order with UPS or Fed-Ex and absorb the cost back to them, but once again, this is rare and most dealers will not do that.

Whatever the means, please, please keep us posted on how effectively they handled the swap.

You may have the wrong antenna. The SDS100 has a raised lip around the antenna connector. The body of the antenna must have a smaller diameter to fit into the hole to properly seat and engage the threads. If you ordered a Remtronix 800 MHz antenna, you need the model REM-820S. That antenna also includes a rubber O-ring to maintain the same water resistance as the stock antenna.

He didn't say anything about swapping antennas. Hey OP---- did you swap antennas by chance ??? Or maybe someone else had the unit before him and swapped antennas and then returned it to BCW. Not probable, but possible.
