I have been switching back and forth between remtronix antenna (at home) and a mobile antenna (in vehicle). Issue is the locking ring became loose and I tightened it but now it seems the SMA "stub" has become too short and any antenna I use will not make a good connection and not receiving now with NO reception strength bars on the screen. Is there a DIY fix for this or is it off to Uniden?

Is the warranty still active? If it were me, which its not, I would open it and take a look.

Got It repaired. Unit was not that hard to open up. once inside I was able to locate the inner locking ring nut that secures the SMA stub to the circuit board it was "hanging by a thread" which I tightened as one would the outer ring nut. This put the stub back in the proper position in the antenna port and now the remtronix makes perfect connection again. Full bars on P25PH2 multi simulcast system (Phoenix,AZ).
In the future going to use SMA to BNC adapter so when changing to the mobile antenna not as much turning is needed.

I had the same issue. Glad you were able to correct it. I attributed mine to playing with different antennas and just too much stress on that assembly.
