The GPS is external to the 436.
Just to clarify, you have a broken USB port causing your GPS to not work?
Is one or more pins on it bent?

Anything else and it wouldn't be the 436 itself needing fixing - or it doesn't need to be sent in to fix.
Per an email exchange with undone their techs concluded the GPS port on the scanner is broke. So at some point I MOGHT send it in for repair.

Sorry... not to beat a 'dead horse'....
Also, don't take their word for it, I'd do a bit of testing and elimination of possibly problems before sending it in.

Does the port otherwise function normally?
(Power/charge the radio and pass data when hooked up to a computer?)

Did you visually inspect the port and actually see bent or missing pins?
Did you try another cord?
Are you 100% sure you have all the radio's GPS settings correct?

Note: I have sent both 436s and 100s in for broken USB ports, so I know full well it happens.
Just trying to help you make sure it (port) actually is the problem

I’ve had a couple radio techs look at it and it’s a port issue.
Also, the USB ajd GPS ports are not the same thing.

Yea, that weird little port - I am familiar. Thanks for the reminder.
Sounds like you've looked at all of the possibilities... (Try a different GPS/cord?)

I am curious why the port failed (bad solder joint / bent pin(s)...)?

I think it’s the pins in the port. My tech and Uniden said it looked like the pins were bent. It’s honestly a very poor design to put the ports where they are.

Got the SDS 100 back today. However I also mentioned that the light board was not working properly as the bottom line of the screen was very bright and it’s noticeably darker as you go up the screen.

But...did you finally take the plastic off the display?

After Uniden changing my LCD screen twice, the problem has been fixed. I'm guessing there was a batch of bad LCD screens floating around.

You can compare these photo's to my earlier post #8

If you go to Wal-Mart you can buy screen saver for a tablet and with scissors cut a screen saver to fit the unit. They work great and you have enough material to last forever.

For the amount of money spent, purchase a case which will not only protect your screen, but the entire $650 scanner.

Spoke to uniden today about it. They know it’s an issue. They have not yet issued a recall on the sds100 but I have a feeling it’s coming. I got mine yesterday and it was very noticeable. If the one I’m getting tomorrow does the same thing, I’ll return it and wait till they fix the issue. Way to expensive to be walking around with a broken display.

I found the hard leather case from Scanner Master is a good choice. But I also put a screen protector on my display… after a while the plastic window on the case becomes scratched to the point where you will want to cut it out. With the screen protector already on the radio, it’s not a concern when the case window is removed.

Every week or so, I clean my window of my soft leather case and SDS100 display with an alcohol prep and looks sharp and clear. 4+ years of ownership and at times looks brand new.

I’ve had 5 brand new units all doing the same thing. I am tired of exchanging them.

just got a new one last week and it’s doing it again.

goto the BBB website and read why this company has an “F” rating.

Hard to believe the same person gets 5 bad units when I and several others have more than one with good displays

...now it's Scanner Masters bad batch..:LOL:

I’ve got pictures to prove it.

Actually I've looked at your numerous pictures, and I still don't see what the problem is. Return it and find a new hobby.

Please don’t insult me. I am not here to insult anyone nor name anyone. This is on uniden and uniden alone.

This display is set on black and white and you can clearly see that the top going down is dimmer than the bottom of the screen. This should be one brightness and the same color.

Don’t be a keyboard bully please. I am trying to have a conversation and explain my plight just as you have the right to do. Please be nice to me.

Sorry those of us that do not agree with you have working scanners.
BTW you picture is using different color white like you have picked different color white.
Not being a bully just stating facts as I own 2 SDS100 and 1 SDS200 plus several other 536's 996P2's
The other problem with your complaint is the SCANNER IS LIT FROM THE BOTTEM
