the wife and i bought an SDS100 a couple of years ago.
we have since bought 2 batteries for it. one was last week and the other one year ago.
i happened to notice that the LED light charge indicator was on almost once a day.
yesterday the old out of radio did the "explosion' thing.
the radio sits almost all the time plugged in and charging.
it also runs day and night as i can hear it throughout the house.
just posting this so if you are doing the same and notice it charging that much, it is time for a new battery.

Just to give you my experience, since we went encrypted in January 2021 I keep the 100 near the bed, plugged in, turned off and the green light is on all the time. If I need it I can grab it. It doesn't hold a full charge but it gives me three to four hours of service before it dies.

This is the original battery that was given to me during the nip it in the bud campaign when the big butt battery and cover was introduced after the smaller battery did not provide enough power. The first group of purchasers signed up got the bigger battery and got to keep the old small battery with the flat cover.

I look at it the radio Plugged In and the light is red but not very often. I do have another big butt battery and I still have the smaller battery I keep them fully charged and in a drawer.

Honestly I don't worry about the potential explosion LOL. The radio is beat to h e double hockey sticks. I don't really care about fire and being a portable it doesn't serve me much as I listen to my SDS 200 with a rooftop for all of the other things I listen to.

I got one of the first radios, the serial number shows it was 400 and something off the line.

Never had swelling with the three batteries. First issue of the slim battery and first issue of the big butt batteries.

You know if you leave the radio unplugged and turned off it will lose its charge on its own, it goes down a little bit every day on its own.

It doesn't hurt to buy a new battery and get an external charger and keep two batteries.. 1 in the radio and one in your pocket.

Sorry for the long post but you asked🤣🤣🤣

thanks bob,
the wife might now take it out more.
we are thinking of getting the 200 and this just adds to that thought.
it was an actual pop as it was next to me.
it took a minute to figure out what it was.
the cells expanded quick enough to pop the case they are in.
my line is
"you can never have too many radios"

Set the 'Charging While On' setting, to 'Off'. Charge the battery with an external battery charger.

They expand slowly and when the mechanical pressure gets too high the latch breaks. If you have a replacement latch bough from internet made of stronger material then the expansion can instead happen inwards against the scanner electronics or the case break so that a latch no longer have a place to latch on to.

It doesn't matter how you charge, or not charge at all, or if the battery gets hot. It's a lottery if you have a battery that will swell on you.
