I recently purchased a new SDS100 (which is fantastic!!). Within 6 hours of owning it and just using it around my house, the belt clip broke. (See attached) It will not secure the scanner anymore making it unusable. I reached out to Uniden tech support via email and did not receive a response after 10 days so I called Uniden customer service. A nice representative told me that since the part is classified as an "internal component", I have to ship the unit to Uniden and wait a couple weeks for them to ship back a new belt clip with it.

I am sorry, but I will not be using my own money to ship a defective part + perfectly good $650 scanner to get replaced after only owning it for 6 hours.

Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

Thank you in advance. IMG_9837 (2).JPG

Having to ship a brand new SDS100 back to Uniden just to get the belt clip (an EXTERNAL part!) replaced is unacceptable!

Joe Bearcat, are you reading this????

As long as the mount for the clip (on the scanner), that's insane to require that the whole unit be sent back. From your picture, it looks like everything involved is only the clip.

There is a 3D printed belt clip just for the SDS100. You can look at it by << CLICKING HERE >> as well. That might save you the trouble and wait of sending your scanner back.

When mine broke it was still under warranty and they sent me a new one for free. But the second one also broke so I gave up on getting a new one. I think the person mistook what part you were referring to.

Call the CSR back and make sure they knew it was the belt clip and not the SD card clip or the battery latch clip. They may have not understood you. Worst case, just send the clip to service for replacement. They do not need the entire scanner.

Another option is to use a case which will better protect the scanner as well as attach to your belt.

I appreciate everyone's help. Thank you all very much. I'm getting a hard leather case for it as soon as they're back in stock.

That 3D printed part is cool, thanks for sharing!

If that's the same clip used on the 436hp honestly I personally wouldn't use that even on a cheap scanner... a case is the way to go with a scanner that expensive for sure. They really need to change the design on scanners such that they are like the clip used on the back of commercial portable transceivers, I doubt it would cost but a few cents more if any...
Just my personal opinion
