What's the best squelch setting for listening to phase 1 and 2 digital? I have the stock antenna and the radio shack 800mhz bnc type.

Generally somewhere between 2 and 5 is best. Set it as low as you can without the scanner hanging up on spurious signals and noise.

When comparing the SDS and 436 on my local P25 simulcast, setting the SDS to 2 or higher caused either a significant delay or complete miss of many transmissions that came through on the 436 just fine (which was set to 1). Setting the SDS to 1 gives nearly identical performance, with the edge to the SDS (apparently, conditions are way above average for the 436 to be doing so well - but I'm sure it'll go deaf once again any day now).

I dont hear any noise on phase 1 and 2. How do I know if its gets hung up on a signal?

Dont have any conventional frequencies to test for noise.
Look at the conventional scan speed with squelch closed it scans fast with squelch open the receiver sees noise and the scan speed is slower.
