Looking into potentially upgrade to SDS 100 in the next few months. I've been using a TRX-1 for just under seven years now and the simulcast handling on it is abysmal. My question about the SDS 100 is - does it have the ability to automatically skip, or continue scanning from a talkgroup when encryption is detected? We have a lot of encryption around my area, but sometimes dispatches go in the clear for random periods of time, or a some talkgroups have mixed clear/enc voice. It would be nice to not have to constantly and manually take channels in and out of "avoid" mode, but to leave it all programmed and only have the scanner stop on the channel when clear transmission is heard. For those also using DSD+ to monitor and know how enc talkgroups are handled there, this is the behavior I would like to see. Thanks.

My SDS is pretty good about skipping over encrypted transmissions. Occasionally I’ll hear a second of garbled voice, but it moves on pretty fast.

I've only heard the encryption "sound" on my SDS when the signal is pretty weak or in a simulcast area that is prone to distortion. It's never been more than a split second before it shows "ENCRY" in place of "P25" and moves on.

Both of my SDS scanners normally skip over encryption. they might stop on an active talkgroup for a fraction of a second, but once the scanner senses that encryption is in use, they move on almost instantly.

Once in a great while, something about a specific transmission is not flagging the encryption enough to alert the scanner, and I may get a brief bit of garbled (encrypted) audio, but that's not common. (That could be, in part, from DVINTHRHOUSEMAN's comments about a weaker signal.)

I haven't checked DSD+, but Unidens scanners leave the whole system when it thinks that a TG are encrypted. Ideally it should be a user selection of just to mute, and wait for a clear transmission if it is a mixed mode, or block that TG temporarily during that current call and go back to the control channel to check for other calls, or do the current behavior of skipping the system.

Thanks! The first part of your reply sounds like it does do what I would want it to do. There is another post on here about it just "muting" encryption, but I'm looking beyond that.
