If one goes to Amazon, they show a GPS receiver, but also a kit consisting of a rats nest of cables, many of little use.
So << CLICK >> <------ that must at least be the correct GPS unit... (one assumes since it's shown).

After a searching further, I found what appears to be the correct cable at Bearcat Warehouse, but surprisingly I didn't see the GPS receiver listed. Anyway, one can assume that if they << CLICK HERE >> they'll have the correct cable.

Odd that in my search I didn't fine one place that had both items. Oh well, at least when the time comes, I'll know where to go.

Buying things can be hard.
Yeah, honestly! With all the radio outfits like Scanner Master and Bearcatwarehouse I expected at least one of them to offer a GPS unit to make things easier for the average consumer, heck it might even increase sales. Even HRO, their website only showed the following accessories... no GPS puck.

Oh well, the whole point of the original post was to make it easier for the next guy wanting to upgrade.

Uniden hasn't helped themselves. They have offered up a real kludge of cabling, adapters, and pucks.

I made my own, it was easy. Search the forum, several years ago. One of my SDS100 had the internal mod, that work great!

Yep! I already saw that this morning when I was searching things out. If I have to go through the trouble of ordering the parts and waiting for them, I figured I might as well just order the completed thing.
I will not be going with the internal version because:
1) it would void my warranty.
2) I'm leery of the person doing the mod, sending it off, then not getting it back for over six months (and counting for one guy).

1, so what. Benefit of one piece and ease of use far outweighs the standard repair fee Uniden charges on the exceptionally remote chance that warranty work is needed.
2, that's to bad, it was quick for me. I didn't know there were issues.

Just FYI. The little puck like antenna for the SDS100 was discontinued some time ago and replaced by the Cluster Kit :)

Occasionally I will find the older version on some sites. I bought one of the last ones of the original pucks when Universal Radio had their closing sale.

1) I'm sure one piece as it's advantages, although I have read numerous messages about warranty work needed for cold solder joints. If it works for you, great. (y)
2) I never claimed there were "issues", (other than the internal mod), I simply stated that since I would have to, order and wait for the parts, it would be easier (for me) to just buy what I needed and not have to mess around with building one.

Different strokes for different folks.

I have been using this exact set-up for 2 1/2 years in three different cars and a moving truck without issue.

I can't even find my puck anymore. Since I bought the SDS100 and had the internal GPS installed, I never use it. Occasionally, however, I break out the 436 and plug in Jon's rechargeable GPS. It's better than the puck and probably better than Garmin.

Bearcat Warehouse has the Uniden GPSK BC-SGPS in stock. Yes it's the whole kit, so you end up with stuff you don't need. Oh well.

Yeah and you'll save $57.36 by ordering just the correct cord and puck from those two places and not have extra stuff to shove in a drawer.

The battery/charger is $30.00 cheaper than on Amazon ($20 cheaper when factoring in HRO shipping). Now that I've been paid all my Christmas overtime, I know where I'm ordering it from. (y)

I've seen situations where people thought they were ordering the right components only to be disappointed. The round puck is the old style. The current version is rectangular. I've seen people end up spending a quarter trying to save a nickel because they didn't get the correct parts.

That old version was intended to be used by some other electronic device. Uniden experimented and found when added to other components, it would work for scanner control. However, those other components were a little more difficult to come by.

The GPSK-SGPS may have more parts than needed, but it would cover all varying models, so that's the method to their madness.

The uniden gps kit GPSK-SGPS (for multiple scanners) does not power the radio as far as I know. You need the cig plus plus power the radio either via battery or usb. The puck and utgc cable combined (mentioned by the op) will power the radio and GPS using only one usb (and one cable).. which I prefer.

I dont think the internal GPS that Jon installs for$80 can not be beat. No cables, no puck, no hassles.

Possibly, even if it were no longer in warranty, there are other circumstances that have come up lately that need to be taken into account, like how long one would have to part with their scanner.
