Just posted firmware for the SDS100 and SDS200, plus a new version of Sentinel that includes the functions added by the update. As usual for public releases, these updates are applied using Sentinel.

1.02.01 Sub / 1.08.05 Main (3/7/2019)
Be sure to also update Sentinel when applying this update.
This firmware update applies the following new settings and bug fixes:

  • Added an "AMP OFF Timer" setting that determines how long the amplifier stays on after a transmission ends. If you hear hum between transmissions, change this from Infinite to one of the available settings.
  • Added "Wide Normal", "Wide Invert" and "Wide Auto" filter options for FM performance improvement. When you pick this setting, the filter becomes weaker for interference on a nearby frequency. However, the linearity of the IF can be maintained even when there is strong interference within the band, and the reception may be improved in some cases.
  • Added an option to display the filter setting when customizing the display.
  • Improved a reception dropout issue where dropouts are often accompanied by "LINK" icon appearing at start of dropout.
  • Improved crackling noise on analog.
  • Improved the reports that some REC files created have no audio captured at replay.
  • Added a prompt to exit certain modes.

When are we going to get a key lock for the SDS100? I would like to lock out the keyboard & function button like in my 396T from always being pressed in my holster. I know there is no lock symble on the keys but this could still be a feature. Func + Pwr = Lock. Func + Pwr = Unlock.

It's possible but we are not sure the status of Uniden development after the loss of Paul. It's possible that they are working hard on updates but it's also possible that, if he was the sole driving force of updates, we don't see many in the future or until someone new fills that role and possess the same zeal as he did.

It was previously stated when this was first mentioned that Uniebn felt it was not needed. Based on that I'd say never.

With that in mind, perhaps they could work on other issues, i.e., defining the filters, etc. Of course, since they tend to keep a lid on everything, who's to say they're not doing that already.

When the sds100 1st came out it had a lock but it was removed. Everytime a person would ask UPMan would say for you to try them as they work different on every system.

It never had a lock, it had a text field in the display available but never functioned.

As a Beta tester, it was one of my first suggestion. That suggestion was turned down. No idea if not possible (hardware) or corporate just did not like the idea.

Only time I ever used locks on any scanner was when I was around nieces and nephews when they were small

I don’t believe the SDS100 will ever see a key lock. It’s got a recessed keypad and the keys are almost flush with the face of the keypad. That tells me it was a deliberate consideration not to include a lock. But I hear what you are saying... on occasion, I will hit a wrong button and then have to hit the function button to get the scanner back to where it was. I am guessing that without raised buttons and a recessed keypad, Uniden never intended to release a production model complete with a lock... regardless of any documentation to the contrary. But I do have a question regarding the SDS100’s case... it appears to be the same case Uniden is using for one of their marine band transceivers. I wonder if that radio also has the same recessed keypad without raised buttons, and if so, does it have a key lock?

All of what I have written here is only a guess on my part. I have no knowledge of Uniden’s intentions regarding the issue but given it’s hard to unintentionally hit a key, I’d say that’s the reason for no lock.

The marine radio have a keypad lock but the keypad doesn't look at all the same as what the scanner has. But I can't remember any portable scanner that didn't had a keypad lock. And most professional radios also has one.

To not have a keypad lock on this radio is ridiculous, and the primary reason I own only one SDS100 and three Unication pagers. I will never walk around with something that stops doing what it was intended to do just because you brushed against something. Don't get me wrong, I think both the 100 and 200 are the best scanners ever but they have their place (and that place is on a desk or in a dash).

There were some users that were seeing the keypad lock on the SDS100 actually functioning through the Sentinel software in the early versions. As noted elsewhere, it was taken out in later Sentinel versions. Upman's reply at the end of the first linked thread seems to verify that:

....And a drop-in charger would just be too desirable

If you use the Scanner Master case with the clear plastic over the keypad, you don't get very many accidental keypresses.

I've never really had any issues with any accidental button presses, but when I have the scanner on my belt I try not to bang into things with it. I suppose YMMV.
