Going to purchase the SDS100, have a BCD396XT want to program SDS100 for Morris County, NJ and Essex County, NJ. Familiar with programming with the BCD396XT within FreeScan. I know the SDS100 uses the Sentinal software which I downloaded to view, Question is it worth it to have the SDS100 preprogrammed for the two county's for the extra $75 or not needed where can just select from the software? If I need to have preprogrammed whats best site to buy scannmaster or Bearcat Warehourse?

my two cents,
i think you should know how to program it, you never know what can happen.
like the other guy kind of said, things on the system could change.
you might go to a different county and want to listen to it.
you could hit the avoid button and then have to figure out the un-avoid button (there is none)
you might have the school bus group locked out and then they simulate a hostage situation and you can't listen to them.
that happened here to me, but i unlocked everybody (i was using a 396T at the time)

My take on the question...
Part of Sentinel's usefullness (and ProScan's if you are a RR member) is that they have direct FTP access to the RR database - the same data a vendor is going to use. They will follow the exact same steps as you will - and you save $75!!!

And you will think to yourself what a burn it would have been if you had paid.
Paying for programming these Uniden radios is a rookie move (IMO)...

Come here, or your region's seperate forum if you have questions.
But.... please use the search function first.
Chances your question has been answered are high - and some have been answered many many, many times.....

Just purchased an SDS100 in last 60 days and purchased programing.
Save your money not worth it, they program one size fits all. Watch videos you can do it. I purchased from Bearcat Warehouse just because they offered extended warranty, although have purchased other items from Scanner Master.

$75 for programming...HAH! WHAT A JOKE! Echoing what others have said, learn to program the scanner on your own, this way if changes are made to your agencies of interest you won't be "dead in the water" and reliant on someone else hundreds of miles away to reprogram your scanner. If you search the Uniden Tech Support forum you'll unearth a plethora of threads from those who paid the money to have a third party program their scanners & said third party messed things up. Yes there's is a bit of a learning curve from your 396XT but take your time and learn the SDS's operations little by little. Plenty of resources right here on the forums at your disposal...FOR FREE!

Going to purchase the SDS100, have a BCD396XT want to program SDS100 for Morris County, NJ and Essex County, NJ.
Here is a favorites list file to get you started with the SDS100. First, go to the Tools tab in Sentinel and set Target Model to SDS100. That will make the options available pertaining to your scanner. Save the attached zipped file to your computer and extract. Go to the File tab in Sentinel and click on Import from hpe file (Favorites List). Click on New Favorites List and name it: Morris/Essex Co Click on OK. In the Downloads folder, open the extracted file (Morris_Essex Co.hpe). It will appear as a favorites list in Sentinel. The file has all of the talkgroups for the Morris County trunked system. It also has all of the talkgroups for Essex County and Troop B of the NJ State Police on the NJICS trunked system. Let me know when you get the scanner and I will walk you through how to write the favorites list to the scanner. I can also work with you programming conventional frequencies for the 2 counties. The Blank departments with no quick keys in the Morris County NJ and NJ Interop Comm System trunked systems are there to prevent you from getting the dreaded Nothing to Scan message in the event you turn off all of the department quick keys. Department quick keys as follows:

Morris County NJ
DEPT QUICK KEYS:
0. Morris Co Services
1. Morris Co Interop
2. Morris Co Emerg Ops
3. Morris Co Fire/EMS
4. Morris Co EMS/Hosp
5. Morris Co Police
6. Morris Co Sheriff
7. Morris Co Corrections
*. Morris Co Blank
NJ Interop Comm System
DEPT QUICK KEYS:
0. Essex Co Services
1. Essex Co Interop
2. Essex Co Emerg Ops
3. Essex Co Fire/EMS
4. Essex Co EMS/Hosp
5. Essex Co Police
6. Essex Co Corrections
7. NJ State Police
*. NJICS Blank
(Note: * = None)

Don't spend the $ for programming. What if something happens to the programming, then you will have wasted $75. Do it yourself using Sentinel.
