I thought it was a fun learning curve 🤷🏻‍♂️
It is a learning curve but the fun comes later..right now I have 1 favorite list and can toggle between that and the National Database reliably. I can hold a Department, Channel, Site pretty reliably and switch between the lists..and turn monitoring options on and off..I am getting to know the radio a bit..thats fun..the first days..were NOT lol

I love these threads. Bottom line is if you need a SDS series / Unication radio to properly receive a system in your area, you will need to engage your brain and learn how to use it efficiently.
You're right. Technology continues to move on. To enjoy scanning, it's necessary to follow suit. While there are still some jurisdictions with small agencies that operate on VHF with one repeater, they're becoming relics. If that's the case, your old Radio Shack crystal scanner will still work. Otherwise, your scanner needs to match the technology you want to listen to (digital, trunked, simulcast, etc.).

Some people are very fortunate and they have the experience and knowledge to make the most of the radio right out of the box, Others like me are making a big step up financially and technically with the investment in the hobby. I would never want anyone to feel disparaged for their lack of understanding of the technology inside this radio. Everything is knowable given enough time. Making remarks about people engaging their brain are unhelpfull and do not make this hobby the accessible and inclusive space it needs to be. Shame on you.
Disagree.

UPMan passed away never would release the filter info he just said try different ones to you get the best result. No list has ever been posted.
The info have been posted several times. The bandscope program shows have the filters works and are an IF shift function that confirmes the explanations that have been given several times in the forum. But knowing how the filters technically works will not help as it is pretty much impossible to know what filter to use in a given situation.

If that equation had included those three license fees for every unit then they would have raised the price $150 for every unit.
Uniden had to add the upgrade functionallity in the scanners firmware and add it to their webpage and also have a company supply the credit card payment function and then to manage the administration to report how many licenses that have been sold and would have to be paid for to the licensee company. And on top of that Uniden needs to have a profit margin on everything they do, even if Upman somehow managed to convice management that his free firmware upgrades would add revenue in more sales, so it's probably no more than $10 per license if they where added from the start in the scanner.

Based on the following links, it seems you were having the same issue with the 352P2 prior to purchasing the SDS100. For starters, if possible, I would consider installing a better antenna/cable (outside) and see what happens. Edit: I have a 0dB gain discone antenna in my attic, literally 10ft from me, and my digital scanners perform better on it than they do the RS 800Mhz 6dB gain (I believe) antennas.

I bet you're wrong, but I guess neither of us will ever know, will we?

Even if that's true, why would Uniden eat $30 per unit for every 996P2/325P2/436/536 that was ever sold with no way to recoup that cost?

As you stated no list of what filter to use in what setup is posted.
Yes, there's no relation between setup and filter selection. It is on a trial and error basis and are location dependent. That's why there's an auto setting when you are on the move. It should logically also be a way to save the filter setting to a fixed setting that auto has choosen when you scan stationary, like from home. But the development have stopped in its tracks and doesn't seem to have continued since a year ago.

Based on the following links does not reflect the current situation. I have changed monitoring locations since last year and thus have a more salubrious listening environment. In my previous location I was on top of a hill 50 road KM away from any major urban activity. The 325P2 did find what was available at that location which turned out to be not much. I ran several 24 hour logging sessions with it and got what ever was availabe in the area...which was not much. Moving from the farm into the city has increased my reception options in most cases.

Yes , it took me some time . It’s more of a hands on radio then someone trying to walk you through it . My first digital was the 536 . I stared at that thing and said this is going to be a struggle . The 536 got me to where I knew unidens software so when I got the sds200 I was prepared somewhat . I’ll kid you not I just learned how to do direct entry for quick save . Again fun and educational

I believe it..I had an 996XT a few years ago and really liked it. I am weathering the learning curve with the SDS100 there are few more things that I wish it could do..I had an ICOM years ago that had the ability to display slow scan TV and video..I wish this one could do that too..but it would need to go up to 2.4ghz for most wifi cams. I would like a waterfall band activity display too..but with things the way they are in the hobby for right now I am not sure we are going to get another radio as capable for a while.
