I do. But that's a different question - he asked about an update. So you think this is the last radio Uniden will make?

That's not how it works. The name of the filter settings are a bit misleading. There are two filters in the first IF frequency that are selected depending of the monitored frequency and the IFX setting changes if the next IF should be + or - from the oscillator and it will then sometimes also switch to the other of the two crystal filters.Of course you can always choose no filter at all but... No RF interference in your area? You would have to live in the county of Nye. LOL.
I would love it if people wrote out IN FULL the first time they use a term for people like me..so we are not left struggling to guess what the term IF is or means so..if you want to make a post more user friendly you would write out Intermediate Frequency (IF) the first time you used the term and then you could use the abbreviation thereafter.. IFX does not compute for me so please by all means enlighten me. Band Pass, 1st Order,Second Order, 3rd Order, Harmonics, all require some research to make sense for me right nowThat's not how it works. The name of the filter settings are a bit misleading. The different settings of the filters are software controlled and only moves the filter off frequency in either direction and by different amounts of MHz, and are done by altering the oscillator frequency, IF shift, that are common in shortwave receivers. When you have the filter set to off it is actually setting the filter to a center position, passing equal amount of 5MHz of either side of the frequency.
When you set the filter to Normal it's actually moving the filters frequency so it will pass most of the 10Mhz above the frequency and not much below the monitored frequency. When you have interferencies you test different filter settings, and IFX, to try and attenuate the offending frequencies as much as possible and sometimes that's an impossible task if the frequency band are crowded.

It's easy to google search "IF frequency". IFX is a Uniden acronym and should be in the manual.I would love it if people wrote out IN FULL the first time they use a term for people like me..so we are not left struggling to guess what the term IF is or means so..if you want to make a post more user friendly you would write out Intermediate Frequency (IF) the first time you used the term and then you could use the abbreviation thereafter.. That's the correct thing to do, research. As long as you have the explanation you google it further for all the things that doesn't make sense. We all have different understanding of things and often need to search for further clarification as our knowledge differ and we cannot have full understanding of all the different topics being discussed.all require some research to make sense for me right now![]()
While I appreciate the mumbo jumbo LOL I'd like to help people in the simplest terms possible to get that distance station or improve the performance of a phase 2 system that's having problems with reception. Doesn't matter to me what they call the filters they can call them XY and z or 1 2 and 3 makes no difference to me.That's not how it works. The name of the filter settings are a bit misleading. Well talking to yourself is generally regarded as normal as we age..It may be time to get out of this one. Now we have people responding to their own responses.![]()
It has the memory enough to hold most state systems and the software support makes it easy to change. Its a great radio with Pro Voice NXDN and DMR modes unlocked it has the ability to monitor quite a bit of the active spectrum the average person would find interesting.I have the Uniden 325P2 it may not have bells and whistles but here in Illinois on the Il Starcom it works great and does P2 great and can be programmed on a fly, it’s short on battery power but I carry 2 alkalines for a quick change
well it is still 2020 after all . Crazy year crazy peopleWell talking to yourself is generally regarded as normal as we age..
I wouldn't recommend using RSSI as an indicator for testing filters as that value are also an indicator of how strong the interference are. If anything, try to give it as low RSSI as possible as that will give you the least interfered signal. Your monitored frequency will always by passed by the filters, it's only the interference level that change and are more or less blocked with different filter settings. Try to only use NOISE and D-ERROR as an aid for selecting filters.I laid out a method in that thread on filters someone posted above... Using real-time results of RSSI, noise and error rates directly on the radio while monitoring.
I do appreciate the technical explanation and aspects but I kind of see it as just splitting hairs. I kind of don't care exactly how they work just as long as... they work... LOL.
You covered a lot of my personal gripes with your post. Creating Favourites in Sentinel has been an issue for me..I have one stand alone list.In response to the original posts, my take:
I like the SDS100 a lot. I didn't find it difficult to program. Once I understood the organization of System/Site/Department/Channel it became much easier. I don't think Uniden does us any favors by calling this "Dynamic Memory Architecture" but that's just my opinion. It's simply how everything is organized.
I personally find the original manual very adequate and almost never used the "easier to read" manual, which I frankly don't find that much easier. The hurdle, I think, is the channel organization and quick keys/number tags (I wrote something about these at the bottom).
I wasn't used to "Talk Group IDs," and "Sites" and so forth. But once I understood that and understood where they were going with Systems, Departments and Channels it became much easier to program. I'm not advanced enough to fiddle with filters. I played around with them a little but the defaults seemed just fine so I left it there.
My biggest gripe about the scanner is the nearly flat keypad. I hate having to use my thumbnail in the lower right corner to turn it on and off. I would much prefer a non-water resistant scanner but with a normal keypad. I'm not going to toss this into a jacket pocket and go out in the rain with it.
As for the battery latch, I think that's a bit overblown. It's under a great deal of stress so logic dictates relieve it a bit before snapping it open.
My biggest complaint overall lies with the Sentinel software, which looks like it was written in the early 90's using Visual Basic or Delphi. And it's strictly modal, which is just lazy programming. It was probably written on the side by someone rather than by professional software developers. And I don't think it's been updated in forever. But it works, and is adequate and we don't live all day in it so it's ok.
As for price - it's hard to judge that these days. I go out on a bender at the pub with the fellas and I drop a couple of hundred dollars and do no favors to my liver. So the cost/value proposition for how long these things last..<shrug>
The sds200 is driving me nuts but that's a different thread and issue.
I wrote the notes below for myself, maybe they will assist someone else.
SDS Navigation Concepts
Quick Keys exist at three levels: Favorites, Systems and Departments, and are used to toggle them on or off. To use, enter all or part of:
FF.SS.DD then press E.
Examples
FQK = Favorite Quick Key, SQK = System Quick Key, DQK = Department Quick Key
10 E (toggles FQK 10)
10.3 E (toggles SQK 3 in FQK 10)
10.3.2 E (toggles DQK 2 in SQK 3 in FQK 10)
.3 E (toggles SQK 3 in currently scanned Favorites list)
..4 E (toggles DQK 4 in currently scanned System)
Number Tags exist at three levels: Favorites, Systems and Channels, and are used to quickly navigate to those elements. To use, hold on any channel (with soft key 3), enter the tag as FF.SS.CC then press soft key 3 again.
To Hold On Something
While scanning it press F + Soft key 2. Message “SiteN Site hold On” appears. Do the reverse to stop.
- To hold on a Site:
While scanning press the System (Soft key 1) key. It holds on current System. If it's not the correct one, press System key again ("T" marker appears) then scroll via Volume knob until desired System appears then stop. To cancel press soft key again.
- To hold on a System:
While scanning the System (e.g. VIPER), push the Dept button (Soft key 2) once while Scanning. Scanner will stop on the current Department. If it's not the correct one, press Dept key again ("T" marker appears) then scroll via Volume knob until desired Department appears then stop. To cancel press soft key again.
- To hold on a Department:
You covered a lot of my personal gripes with your post. Creating Favourites in Sentinel has been an issue for me..I have one stand alone list.
When I try to create a second..it wants to nest it underneath and connected to my 1...I dont want that I want a 2nd completely independent list..so I get that finally and I can't get the data to populate or copy to the folder...**** my life sometimes..spent an hour trying..gave up, Have 1 favorite list now and can select it or not..better than nothing![]()
I don't create sites by hand either..just copy from the database as a whole once a weekHere's what I do in Sentinel:
Click Edit Favorites List (main toolbar button)
Click the "New Favorites List" button in the dialog which opens.
Add your new name. A dialog appears which I do not use. At this point I just do a File > Exit and say "Yes" to the "Save first?" prompt.
In the left hand tree panel, go up to "Database" node (top level). Drill down to what you want, right-click, "Append to Favorites List". In the 'Select Favorites List' dialog box which opens, select your new list. It sticks it onto it.
That pretty much covers the basics of getting things from the main Database. I don't create Sites and such by hand, I pull everything from the Database.
Having one favorite list inside another makes no logical sense. You can't do it in any software. A new list is a new list, separate from the others. You covered a lot of my personal gripes with your post. Creating Favourites in Sentinel has been an issue for me..I have one stand alone list.
