I have my SDS100 setup (config & scanner agency lists) the way I like it. I use Sentinal and have my profile saved. Can I write my SDS100 file to my SDS200? What will I need to update on the update on the SDS200 after I write to the SDS200?

Thank you

Yes, you can use the same profile for both. The only thing you need to do is adjust the target mode in Sentinel under tools to say "SDS200". When programming your SDS100, adjust Sentinel target mode accordingly. On Mondays, open up Sentinel and update database. This will keep your scanners updated. A box will pop up asking if you want to override your favorites and just click "yes" so that the favorites list stays updated. As always, save a back up of your profile before making any changes.

Not sure if that's what you meant, but just as a point of clarity... updating the database with Sentinel on Mondays does not update your favorites lists. The favorites lists have to be updated manually

Your “SDS100” profile is basically your choices as to which Favorites lists you want to download to the scanner, and which of these you want to monitor by default. It also includes your choices of service types, location, and other settings such as whether or not Priority is enabled by default.

The main thing you need to modify when using the same basic profile between your SDS100 and SDS200 would be to change the target model to SDS200, then save the changes as an additional profile.

By creating an additional profile for the SDS200, even though your favorites lists settings are basically the same, is that you’ll have any customizations of the display saved in a profile that matches the scanner type.

I have separate profiles saved for each of my x36HP & SDS series scanners, with the target model set, and any differences as to which Favorites lists to be downloaded and which to monitor.

Just before writing back to the scanner, we get the option to :
1. Erase Favorites Lists from the scanner
2. Force write full database.
I always check both options. If I understand correctly this updates any changes in frequencies to the items listed under my favorites. Maybe I am wrong, but it has not caused any issues for me.

In short:
1. Open sentinel,
2. Connect your sds 100
3. Read from your sds100
4. Update database
5. Disconnect sds100. Connect sds200
3. Update target mode under tools to select sds200
4. Under scanner tab, select write to scanner
5. Select both tabs (erase favorites lists on scanner and force write full database)
6. Click ok and disconnect scanner when done.

Any favorites lists in your scanner will not receive any updated information from the weekly updates, Sentinel is designed not to update favorites lists on purpose... if you had customized a lot of data in your favorites lists (agency names etc.), Sentinel would overwrite all of that each time the database was updated. If there have been updates to any of the agencies contained in your favorites lists, it is necessary to update those manually using Sentinel's Favorites List Editor.

Erasing Favorites Lists from the scanner when writing to it insures that you don't end up with duplicate favorites lists in the scanner, but it doesn't send any updated data unless you have manually updated (or added to) your favorites.

It's not necessary to check the "force write full database" in Sentinel unless you are trying to over-write the master database in the scanner with one of the same date from Sentinel. The only time you would need to check that box would be if the master database in the scanner had somehow been corrupted (for example... a bad SD card), and you were trying to re-write the same date database to the scanner again.... a very rare instance.

Once you update the database in Sentinel with the new weekly update, and Sentinel sees that it has a newer database than the one in the scanner, just writing to the scanner will always (force write) overwrite the older one in the scanner without having to check that box.

When Sentinel sees that the scanner has the same date on the database that it has in your computer, it won't write that database to the scanner again. Each time you write to the scanner for adding frequencies etc, as long as the database dates in the scanner and Sentinel match, the main database in not sent to the scanner again.

As noted above, updating Sentinel's database will not update programming in any of the Favorites lists that reside in Sentinel.

For those members that are Premium Subscribers, and have one or more systems in their Favorites lists that were created via a RadioReference database import in ProScan, ProScan can check the imported systems in your Favorites lists, and offer to update them to match what is currently entered in the main database. That is a manually selected procedure, and does not happen unless it has been selected. If your Favorites lists' systems were manually created, whether via direct entry or appending from the main database, any update must be done by you. ProScan will not offer to update those created manually or via appending. You must be a Premium Subscriber, and have systems in your lists that were generated via database import.
