This article is dated and the models cited are quite old. Many of the high-end modern radar detectors are invisible to Radar Detector Detectors (RDDs) like the Spectre and VG2. The Escort Redline 360C, Radenso DS1, Radenso Pro M, Radenso XP, Uniden R7, and Valentine V1G2 models remain invisible to both the Spectre Elite and Spectre III. Oddly enough, the newer Spectre Elite is less sensitive than the older Spectre III and will often miss emissions from the Uniden R1 and R3 detectors. Do your research before you assume a Radar Detector is invisible to RDDs.

No thanks. I will continue to emit the behavior I want.

Please, review my statements. I invited folks to chew on the hyperlink.

The statement I made prior to the untoward was specific to the two Passports I owned. The Passport Max II is not shielded.

There are several $100-$200 models of a speed warning device with built in GPS that has all the speed limits programmed and can be updated online. Then the device show your actual speed and when you go just a little bit faster than allowed it shows a warning and when going even faster that could render a speed ticket it beeps and warns you about your excessive speed. In some countries, like mine, it is not allowed to import, sell, or even have a radar detector in your possession. Then those speed warning devices becomes very popular and they also have all the positions for fixed and permanent speed cameras programmed that will give you an additional heads up warning.

Thank you for your response.

When I use Waze, it will alert me when approaching and going over the posted limit.

Does your radar detector still know where the cop is even if the cops radar is off, and he is not transmitting on his radio?
No, that is why I use the CB and Scanner as well.

Additional statement to post #24.

Even if an officer is not transmitting, I can still hear dispatch. Most of the time, I hear DPS talking to a ground unit without a response from the trooper.

When DPS dispatch reports a wreck on IH35, the likelihood of officers being present is pretty high. So, I modify my behavior.

Right, and if no one on the cb is announcing a cops location, and the cops are not transmitting, neither will alert you to the presence of a cop. Even if you know where one is, you won't know where all the others are. But to each his own.

I had instant on radar and could usually get the violator before they could react to the radar detector. I also had a hand held LiDAR and would park off the road and walk out to the roadside. Traffic enforcement was my specialty up until I retired.

I was making reference to the patrol cars. I did not hear them first in this incident. I "first" heard dispatch telling the unit(s) to go to the scene.

This is exactly how I detected the presence of a the high speed chase. I heard about it when dispatch transmitted to the cop. Hence, I heard it before the officer transmitted back. Then, I heard some of the ground units. But, it originated with dispatch, not the patrol units.

Again, here is my example. DPS transmits to mobile units, but I don't hear the mobile units talking back most of the time.

This is how I role. It has worked for me for many years. I don't need any help, but I appreciate the attempted effort on your part.

God bless your pea-picking heart.

You are welcome to have the last word if you like.

X-band seems to be the most problematic band, and I even think that they move away from those radar guns.

/Ubbe
@Ubbe - good catch on X-band as a problematic band. I don't believe the OP ever mentioned the band the detector is alerting on. I routinely run my Radenso detector along with my SDS100 with zero issues. I have X-band turned off as it is nothing but garbage and isn't used in New York.

@N7YUO - If your Cobra has the option, turn off the X-band and see if it silences the detector. I don't see any research that shows Utah still uses X-band radar.

Yes, that used to be the case. Now, when someone with a compatible Passport radar detector detects laser/radar, provided they are connected to their smart phone, it will show an icon on a GPS map. When I approach the location, it will warn me in advance. You can even click on the icon to determine how long it has been activated.

As others have pointed out, there are other apps that do similar functions. A trooper once told me that VASCAR holds up in court quite well due to the simplicity of the technology. He told me they set up for "high rollers." I used to use my scanners to hear aircraft talking to ground units in MO and OK. I knew I was getting close to the action when I heard the mobile talking back. It wasn't too long before LE used countermeasures for this as well.

I am very pleased with the SDS 100. I consider myself lucky. I haven't experienced any vehicular complications with my current setup.

A random thought just shot into my brain. God help us if drones are used for speed enforcement. I am sure this is on the table, LOL.

God bless.

Slow down and you won't need the radar detector. Problem solved.

It's a Gibson F5L.
I have to correct myself. I think the avatar may be just a stock photo. I normally play a Gibson F5L mandolin or sometimes a Blevins Octave Mandolin during gigs. My Gibson doesn't have a pick guard. I took it off.

Check out the app JBV1, specifically, the PAWS feature. PAWS = Proximate Aircraft Warning System.

For what it's worth, my primary phone is an Apple iPhone. I acquired a second device without service, that connects to my iPhone via WiFi. This phone is an Android phone used exclusively with this app while driving. JBV1 is second to none in it's purpose and feature set.

Thank you. Luckily, I bought the Passport Max 360 used. It looked brand new at $250. I avoided the Passport Max 360C as a function of a Wifi feature. I prefer Bluetooth.

The screen is similar to this.

Since I know that Texas DPS have CB radios installed in their vehicles, I will key up the CB and tell them I burned their location.

Interesting. I've driven all over Texas the last 7 or so years (from Texarkana to El Paso to Amarillo to McAllen and everywhere in between) and have never seen a DPS unit with a CB antenna.
