When I started my SDS100 tonight (short time owner) the screen displayed BCD436HP rather than SDS100. Have I been duped when I bought the SDS100?

With me, anything is possible. My era with scanning was to enter the 5 digit frequency, save ir and move on to the next channel.

My first experience was purchasing a converter device, tune my AM transistor radio to a frequency, turn on the converter and hold it next to the AM radio and hear the local police frequency. It actually sounded great and it worked. There was no scanning or changing the frequency, just the police channel.

The SDS100 is a terrific top-of-line, state-of-the-art scanner, you'll have a great time learning to exploit its potential.

I know I have.

My advice would be take the time to get to know the Sentinel software, it's pretty good and the key to understanding all the features of the SDS100 scanner.

I am learning something new almost every day. The simulcast group of local city still has some distortion that I wish would go away. It is better than the 436 I purchased earlier, but not perfect. I have found talkgroups that show "unknown" on the dept ID but not in the RR database. I have been able to identify a few and I will post a list of results after I cultivate a few more.

I actually have both and a HP II.
You own an SDS100 and a 436HP? When you use Sentinel did you select the correct "target" radio model? My guess is it was probably left on 436HP from the last time you used it. You may have duped yourself 😉

Thank you for the response. Yes, I selected the correct each target when I worked on those individual scanners.

Unfortunately. no difference was noted during the process.

I agree with the above if you are still wondering. You can change the Opening Message to say anything, even Boeing 747.

Most likely a Profile was copied/programmed and whoever did it was paying more attention to the bigger stuff.

Once upon a time ago before it was caught, one of the lines of an Opening Message said "Barecat".

Changing target model does not change the opening text message...

It must be set in separate profiles using the profile editor.

Save a profile for the SDS100, and one for the BCDx36HP, and write the appropriate profile to that scanner.
