I know I put up a lot of post but my gut is telling me to ask this is it normal for my sds100 to shut down when it gets hit up against something. Something like that just happened I don’t know what but one minute I heard sound the next i didn’t and I try the channel knob it wouldn’t turn the screen so I had to turn the power back on. should I send this refurbished sds100 back to saddle creek to get it look at it might of hit against the arm of my char it’s wood and it it barely was bad if that. and it was in a radio holder to should I be worried about damage what are the signs of it cause I’m trying to take better care of this
The most likely reason for the unexpected shutdown when the scanner gets "bumped", would be an intermittent connection of the battery. Do you have the large battery, with the correct cover. or the smaller battery & cover.
Does the battery compartment cover fit tightly, or is there a little looseness? If you gently shake the scanner, can you feel the battery shifting around under the cover? Any chance that the battery compartment cover got too warm somehow, and warped enough that the battery could be loose enough to break the connection? You might also check for any sign of corrosion or other contamination on the contacts of the battery, as well as the ones on the scanner itself.
I would think it's unlikely that the memory card is at fault. Doesn't hurt to check, of course, but if the card was loose & shifting, I would think that it's data would get corrupted, and a simple re-boot is not going to fix that.
