Hey everyone. I have just received my SDS100 back on Monday from repair. The volume knob broke off and while I was able to make it work for a while I finally got it sent in and fixed. However just today I noticed it wasn't picking up anything at all while showing -40 dBm signal strength. I quickly hopped on a VHF I know has traffic and it was making a rhythmic scratching/static noise. I found a video on YouTube about CSJ's and it's the exact same thing mine is doing. In the notes on my slip they sent back with the scanner they even said they reinforced the solder joint. So my question is, is that what it is going to likely be and not me mistakenly missing something? Also is this something I can take care of myself (mild experience in soldering) so I can avoid some downtime or should I just send it in? Thanks in advanced.

I would call them and explain the issue to them. Not sure if their quality control program goes through the steps of actually checking the operation of the scanner to ensure that it is working properly.

Be sure that you reference the recent repair in a note included with the scanner, so that it's understood that the error is Uniden's, not yours.

To be fair, the issue could have very easily happened in return shipping (a sudden jar causes a break). But I agree it should be covered without additional charge.

Thanks for the responses I’m sending it back. Keeping the service ticket with it in the box. Such a shame I was so excited but I don’t directly think it’s their fault just unfortunate timing.
