Ok so I seem to have a problem with my new Uniden SDS100. I have it set to charge while on but today it started having issues. It would charge for a while with the red light on then the light will go out after a while. I assume it has stopped charging. I have had this scanner less than a month. I can unplug it then plug it back in and it will charge for a while then the red light will go out. I made sure all the setting were correct even disabling then enabling the charge while on feature. Is anyone else having this issue or is it just me? Thank you.

What USB power supply are you using? It may not have enough current capacity to be able to operate and charge the radio at the same sime.

I think it could be overheating, any thoughts?
Yes if you are using the wall wart that came with it, sometimes if you are charging while the radio is on, the red light will go off and it will stop charging to protect the radio from being too hot. You'll feel it near the antenna connection, that is normal that that area gets very warm.

Cycle through half a dozen or more full charges with the radio off when charging.

I use the external charger and see that happen periodically.
You can try laying the SDS100 on a flat surface remove the battery cover and lightly press down on the battery and wiggle the battery around in the compartment to wipe the battery contacts and see what it does. That usually takes care or it for me.

I am using the power thing that came with the radio. It was a bit warm in my apartment then I turned on the AC and it seemed to help a bit. Thank you for the reply. The radio does get a bit warm during charging and while it is on.

Yeah that's normal, the charger that comes with the radio is fine, you want at least two amps, that one might be 2.1 or something, I don't remember.

I use a nylon case which I leave on all the time, I cut the ventilation holes bigger on the side of the case, I took an Ecto knife and cut out the plastic window so I can see the screen easier. I leave the belt clip disc on the rear of the radio, to give it a little ventilation and it fits better with the big butt battery.

Enjoy your new radio.

it has a setting to keep charging the radio while on, if the cord isn't providing enough power it will disable this feature and u have to go back in and enable it. also if the unit gets too warm it will also stop charging, I've charged it while off , it doesn't get as warm.

The thing to learn is left in the sun charging the scanner will reach a temperature where it will turn off charging as it will do the same with #2 and #3.
I usually keep it in my apartment with a good antenna and I can pick up all kinds of transmissions. I think I will start charging it when it is off. It does not get nearly as hot when turned off. Thank you for your input.
