A few days ago I was using my SDS100 in the car. I parked, placed it in the cupholder and stepped away. Well, I didn’t realize that there was a cup of water in the cupholder. Almost two hours later I returned to the car and realized the horror. The water had completely covered the speaker area and reached the keypad. It did not reach the SD card. I tried turning the unit on but it would not stay on. I got home, partially dismantled it to drain as much water as I could and let it dry for 24 hours. I put it back together and it’s working as if nothing had happened. No damage to the speaker, screen or any keypad functions. Kudos Uniden. Very impressed.

from their manual
Water Resistant (JIS4/IPX4) – Resistant to dust and damage caused by splashing water from any direction (when all jack covers are in place).

good to know it was tested in the real world.
thanks.

The late great UPman also tested it on his youtube channel. Had it on and sitting in the rain.

Good thing it wasn't a cup of Coke. Back in the 1970s I used to repair desktop calculators. If someone spilled Coke on the keyboard I would find the circuit traces eaten away.

I left a 436HP on my back porch table overnight once when it rained, albeit in a protective case. Had to dismantle it & let it dry the next day. Luckily it powered up fine & didn't show any signs of water damage. Protective cases work wonders

Oh I believe it. You can use Coke to shine up pennies..

I was expecting someone to make a claim how rice works miracles. Biggest old wives tale ever. If a circuit has power and water hits it, it's done. If you put a doused device in rice and it works afterwards, it was going to work without the rice because water never got to the powered circuitry.

I can't remember all my hazmat training from long ago, but it seems regular Coca-Cola has a ph of less than 7 (neutral). It seems that Diet Coke is even more acidic to the point that a major spill would require a hazmat clean up?
