Anyone know what, if any, the differences are between the two USB ports on these scanners? The user manual is useless in terms of any documentation on the two ports. It sure would be nice if Uniden put a simple statement in the official documentation, and I’ve written them asking for clarification. Hoping this site can respond with a solid answer… thanks in advance.

Micro will run the scanner but not charge the battery. In fact, you can run the scanner from the micro port without a battery installed.
Mini will charge the battery and run the scanner. It will do both at the same time, if the settings are changed to allow that. It's also used to program the scanner or manage it via serial communication.

One caveat: you'll need the full 2A to run and charge at the same time. Run alone takes almost nothing.

And.... since data and power connections are separate in the mini plug, sufficient amperage will run the GPS, scanner AND charge the radio.

Before I got the Jon mod for internal GPS, I made an entire trip from Michigan to Georgia using the external GPS and didn't have to separately charge the unit at all.

It never charges the battery more than 500mA. That's why you have to charge 12-15 hours from a dead battery to fully charged. There's temp sensors in the scanner, and probably also in the battery, that turns off the scanner and the charge process if the temperature goes too high. So not possible to quick charge in the scanner as the SDR receiver already runs so hot. The actual scanner electronics requires 750mA while scanning and at most 850mA at full volume audio.

Post #2 and 3 are accurate - all the Micro will do is power the scanner at this point. The Mini is used for everything.

There is your official answer. :)
