Hullo.
This might be a very stupid or possibly ignorant question. As a 19 year member here I am almost embarrassed to be asking this but here goes.

I would like to add in a few new systems using Sentinel software for my SDS100 and 436. I have a favourite list I use, and I'd like my new list to go there.

I am able to add, build, alter, etc my various systems with ARC software, that's not a problem but I'm wondering if it's possible using Sentinel software.

Im also able to create a system doing it manually in the scanner but that's just to damm hard.

I also have a Home Patrol and was one of the first to get the HP and it was pretty easy to create systems on that scanner via the database in the HP.

Again it's not a big deal if I have to use my ARC software but if there is a way to create new systems in my current fsve lists I'd like to go that route.

If it is something that is right in front of me and I'm numb please by all means laugh away but I'm stumped here.

Yes. You would connect the scanner to pc running Sentinel using a usb cable, and "read the scanner" into Sentinel. This should pull all your current programming into Sentinel so you won't lose anything when you "write to the scanner" with your changes.

Sometimes I feel like it took me 19 years to learn Sentinel and the #36s then the SDS100.

The only thing I would suggest is to pick 1 software and stick with it. I had ARC but tried Sentinel and have stuck with it.

Spend as much time as is practical learning the software. Essentially you can't screw up. You'll just have to reprogram. (Not like Motorola Sabers you could easily brick)

Mr. Walker:

I get all that but I don't see how when my scanner is hooked up to the Sentinel how am I able to build a new system in one of my current favourites list while using the Sentinel.

I can program up new systems on my favourites lists easily enough with ARC Software but I just wanted to know how to do it using the Sentinel.

Thanks for responding.

Can I find a YOUTUBE video that shows how to do it via the Sentinel?

I have both the ARC and Sentinel, the ARC software is workable but if I could do what I want to do with the Sentinal I'd like to do it.

Building the Home Patrol various systems was very easy with the Sentinel.

Sure, a quick search reveals:

Skip to 3:55. Instead of creating a new favorites list, highlight what you want to add, and right-click > Append to favorites list.

First update the database in Sentinel from RR by going to menu: update -> update master database.

It is much simpler if you are appending from the Radio Reference master database, in which case you open the state/county/system from the master database, right click on system (or I think you can also do at department level) to append to your favorites list. If it's a trunked system, you'll have to do some deleting/avoiding to see only what you want. Someone complained it's like starting with a huge boulder and chipping away the unwanted pieces to find the sculpture hidden in the boulder.

If the info isn't in master database, then you have to go into favorites editor and: (1) add the system to the favorites list; (2) add the department(s) to the system; (3) if trunked system, add sites to the system; (4) add the channels/talk groups to the department. This is more complicated and requires you collect the pertinent data required at each level for the scanner to function.

Hopefully some of the linked videos above will help visualize this for you.
