Any reviews from the Cleveland area regarding likes/dislikes?

I can sum up my review pretty quickly... After using the SDS100 for a little over a week, my only thought is...What's not to like.

LSM: Just one comment. What LSM? It's gone. The MARCS-IP system that my other 3 scanners could not receive clearly, is now perfectly clear. The same applies to the Cleveland GCRCN P25 system. No garble, no distortion, no audio dropouts. It just works.:D

Note: I didn't include the Parma P25 system. It has infrastructure problems that create nulls which no scanner or professional radios can fix. But having said that, Parma comes in the same on all of my Digital scanners. If you subtract the nulls, everything else is perfectly clear.

Setup: Piece of cake. FYI. I also own a BCD436HP with DMR & NXDN. My first step was to register the SDS100 with My Uniden. Then I purchased and entered the DMR & NXDN Keys. My next step was to upgrade to the latest version of Sentinel, which now supports the 536, 436 and SDS100. I opened Sentinel and went to Tools and selected SDS100. Then I did a write to scanner (the SDS100). Everything from my 436 was installed into the SDS100. Forty plus Favorites List, everything in working order.:D

Best for last. The new display. Wow. Did I say Wow. I meant WOW. Sharp, clear, bright, high contrast, all sorts of color combinations.
Bottom line, you can change your screens look and features to your hearts content.:D

If you have any specific questions, drop me a PM.

Nice review Bud.
You might want to post your findings on the SDS100 performance spreadsheet. Especially since you have other scanners to compare with the SDS100.

Another thing I like is that returning from a custom search to scanning no longer requires a press of the FUNC button; just push the "to scan" soft key and good to go.

Yeah, it's the little things that excite me. LOL!! :D

I like the radio because it shows the mdc1200 unit ID on the digital conventional channels. But it doesn’t show it on an analog channels I don’t like it because the 436 unit IDs show up and when you put a name with the ID it will come up the new scanner early shows up with the number IDs not the names is that something that they will fix And I also don’t know how to lock the radio it’s not like the 436 will you hit two buttons

You can text tag the radio ID's but they only show up in Simple Trunk.

That's not MDC1200.... MDC is an analog only feature.

And the RID aliases are shown when you add the 'UID Name' (I think that's what it's called) option to an area on the screen

I’ve tried the White with Black Background. I will try the other tomorrow.

Tried the Black Text with White Background in the bright outdoor sunlight. Can hardly read anything. So, my 436 for outside, my SDS100 for everything else. Too bad they didn’t use a screen like what is used in today’s Smartphones. They are legible in all conditions.

I dislike the fact that there is NOT an internal GPS and an external GPS is required. A Location based portable scanner should have internal GPS. They could make 2 version like the MD380 one with and one without. I for one would pay extra for an internal GPS.

Do not like the slow channel scan speed, appears to be 1/2 of the 55 channels per second on my WS-1040. When the SDS-100 scanner does get to a channel with a transmission chances are better that the scanner will open up but the length of time it takes to get to a channel means the transmission could be over by then. I like the screen but I bought the scanner to hear the audio.

There are a lot of people who use their scanner strictly for local listening and have no use for any type of GPS function.

There are also those who don't use their scanner on the road because they have no idea what is going on when they hear something. Unfamiliarity with the police codes and roads where they happen to be can make it difficult to know where something is happening or where it is.

These people should not have to pay for GPS if they're not going to use it.

If you really want internal GPS, see jonwienke.

He covered that in his post - make 2 versions with the GPS version costing more.

I assume that Uniden doesn't want to do that but that is a valid solution.

I absolutely *LOVE* my internal GPS on my SDS100! Absolutely best investment I made.

It kinda goes with not paying for it if you don't use it. My Fusion radios came with built in GPS. TYT makes 2 versions of radios one with GPS and one without. It does give Jon a market for his internal GPS mod, and I may send him my SDS 100 to have that Mod done. That time will wait until I am done getting familiar with the SDS as it is not like my other scanners. Issues sure there are issues but everything has issues of one type or another. Just spent $1200 correcting an issue with my wife's Malibu.

I'm really not a fan of the keys on the sds100. I prefer those on the 436. It seems like they have a narrow sweet spot to make them work.
