If the cable has a high resistance connection in the plug, it may work fine for a device that draws less power, but heat up when powering a high-drain device like the SDS100.

Perhaps the condition of the power being supplied by the utility when in high demand mode might be an issue /speculation.

My SDS100 was living in a hot car today, and didn't seem to suffer when under constant use and charge. Had to be 100+ degrees in there.

Unlikely unless the USB adapter is severely defective. Since the output is only 5V, it should be able to handle a severe brownout before losing output voltage.

My only complaint is the audio out of the speaker. I find it very tinny. It’s loud enough, but lacks any bass and is hard on the ears. I have tried some Bluetooth speakers, possibly a little better, but I had hoped for better sound quality. Has anyone found any solutions to this?

Yes, I have the same complaint. I use earbuds. The Speaker is sub par for a radio in this price range. I can only hope the next portable model from Uniden addresses this issue.

When the scanner's internal temperature goes above a certain limit, charging will temporarily be shut off until the scanner cools down.

Sounds to intelligent for a Uniden scanner. There's a third wire going to the battery and that usually means a temp sens in the battery to cut off charging if heat starts to build up in the battery. That battery temp sense excists in pretty much all custom made battery packs.

The OP mentioned that the plug on his USB cable got hot - not warm.

"Well it did it again 5 minutes ago. The battery was just warm but the plug was quite hot. Going to try another usb plug and see if that makes a difference."

That is correct and after changing out the plug everything has been fine. I am going to go back to the original OEM plug when the battery needs charged and see if it happens again. If it does I would guess the plug is bad.

I have a bad habit of biting my fingernails, thus they are all very, very short. This caused an issue with my 436HP when I needed to plug the USB cable into it. I had a hell of a time getting the rubber flap open on it, so I eventually just ripped it out of the scanner altogether.

I don't have this problem with my SDS100. The "lip" on the flap is big enough that even my short fingernails can get under it in order to open it. Yes, definitely another "like" for this new scanner.

I really want to like my SDS100, but have found a lot issues since using it for a Month now. My 436 outperforms it in almost every way. Reception is just bad. Either missing transmissions or over modulated P25 Phase 1. The internal Speaker is terrible. Just tinny sounding. I have to use earbuds connected to the SDS100 to understand what is being received clearly. The Radio just gets Hot. Which is probably why the battery life stinks. I’m sure even with the larger battery coming, it still won’t match the 436. And it takes a really long time to recharge. The display is hard to read on bright days outside. No matter the Display Settings, just is unreadable. Other than that it’s a great radio.

I looked back on your previous threads (Well not just you back many constant complainers). From Day 1, you haven't liked the speaker (Working great for me, not using ear buds just old fashioned ears). Missing transmissions or over-modulated Phase 1 Transmissions (Must be ear bud related because I'm running a Phase 1 system and have missed really short replies so reverted back to original firmware, until a fix is found but working great otherwise). Radio getting hot (Yes, it get's warm but not hot. What kind of charger are you using?). You have seemed to be dissatisfied from the beginning, but instead of returning it, you kept it. My display is white background and black text and Simple Trunk mode. When I'm outside I wear sunglasses and can see it perfectly. Unless you have a problem with your eyesight...well I'll leave it here.

You mention transmissions dropping out. Their have been 3 firmware upgrades that have addressed issues. Did you submit any debug files or learn how to set that up? I didn't either but I have learned, sent them through and some issues have been addressed as a direct result. You should try this route instead of complaining about a product you're unhappy with and didn't return it within the return window. Their are many out here who have loved to try it out, who are in a simulcast hell (That's me), and have been satisfied with our choices.

I think their must be over 100 threads on this scanner...it works and works very well. Many of us, including myself, are working with UPMan to tweak this product by submitting debug files instead of the constant whining and complaining about "I don't like this/this doesn't work/I can't hear". Is it possible you damaged the scanner trying out one of your off-market non-approved antennas and cracked the housing? Is it possible you downloaded from the database and the NAC codes/frequencies were not correct? Seeing more of that lately, but it's difficult to follow all the threads.

It appears you have an offer...sell the damn thing and save us all the *****in!

For the life of me I cannot understand why people can't just voice their opinions without being attacked by others who have opinions of their own.

Why is it ok for your opinion to be heard (good or bad) but others aren't permitted to provide theirs as well?

What makes some folks here feel they opinion matters more than someone else? Guess what - it doesn't.

Have you noticed how many have had success and a select few who fill these forums with the same gripes but nothing constructive/ no solutions/no debug files just jump on every thread with the same old same old? I certainly have, and while I feel someone who hasn't tampered with a $650 scanner, who doesn't download from the database but instead uses it as a tool has had much success (I'm not the only one here) posts a minor gripe and submits a debug file probably is a little more important than "my SDS100 sucks/I can't hear this or that". It really get's old Troy and as some are now discovering the database that they have downloaded from has inaccurate information {gasp...shocking}. Try some solutions before you constantly complain! The tinny speaker? It's a handheld scanner...many of us are not having issues, but if I was would have returned it within the allotted time and saved the money for a Whistler scanner. Enough already...return it/sell it...you're not happy...we got it!
