Is it scanning? Do you have anything else you are scanning, and does it pick up that? Is your squelch set at 1 or 2? Are the channels encrypted? Do any of them use DMR or NXDN and do you have those upgrades? Are you using location control and what is the range set at? How far away from the sites you have programed.

We need more information other than it won't receive anything.

Talkgroups should only be in a system, in a Favorites, that includes the site frequencies for whichever site they use.

Did you program manually, in Sentinel? or did you append a system from the database to a Favorites list? If programmed maually, via the keypad, did you also enter location data? That is required if you use Location Control.

Is your Favorites list set in your Profile to be both downloaded to the scanner as well as be monitored.?

Did you update the main database in Sentinel, after Sentinel was installed? Do you have the needed Service types enabled? When shipped, the default public safety service types that are enabled are the ones labeled as Dispatch (Law Dispatch, Fire Dispatch, EMS Dispatch, and Multi-Dispatch). Also enable the Tac and Talk types for those (Law Talk, Fire Tac, etc).

I presume the 22851 you mention is the zip code for that area. When using location & range, be sure to accurately enter your location, either by zip code, or by actual latitude & longitude. For a more complete explanation of how 'range' works, see this:
How it Works: Location, Location, Location

If you'll attach your Favorites list file to a post, then we can take a look and suggest what needs to be changed, or added. You'll need to export an *.hpe file for each list that you use in Sentinel.

Export your Favorites list and post it so that we can take a look & help you solve any problems. To do that, click on the drop-down File menu in Sentinel.
Select "Export to hpe file (Favorites lists)

1691781286716.png

Sentinel will generate a pop-up window with all your lists displayed. Pick the list you want,
Then, you'll get a box for you to choose which systems to export. Make sure all of them are checked, & press OK to proceed.

Sentinel will generate the *.hpe file and give you the option where to save it. (The default name will be that of the source Favorites list, but you can, instead, use a different name.) Note where the file is being saved. (The default is usually the Documents folder, but you can save elsewhere if you want.)

Once your file is saved, open Windows Explorer (called File Explorer on some Windows versions).
Find your saved file.

You want to compress it to a Zip file. You cannot attach an hpe file to a post, but you can do that with a Zip file. (If you don't see the 'Compress' choice, you should see, instead, "Send To". Use that, which will pop-out a menu on where to send it. One of the options will be to compress the file. Use that.)

Once you have the Zip file created, you can attach it to a post. Then we can open it & see what might need changes or adjustments.

i think this is it
I don't see anything glaringly wrong. What antenna are you using? The original one that came with the scanner, or something else?
Is your house on a hill, or down below surrounding higher areas?
If you are using an antenna just on the scanner, does your house have metal siding, or foil backed insulation in the walls. Either of those will impact what you can hear.

Have you verified that your correct location is entered in both your Sentinel Profile & the scanner? I see that you do have location data in the systems that I looked at, which is good. So many people forget that when creating a list.

For Rockingham County, I see you created a system for the conventional frequencies, most of which are tagged as linked to the trunked system. I would, instead, program the talkgroups on the system rather than count on a patch.
For your state police, I would program the state's trunked system, STARS, and enter the VSP talkgroups for your area in it.

I'm not in your area, so I have no feel for how many of the systems you have programmed would actually be in range. The antenna would also make a difference. You might get a more concise answer if you request that your thread be moved to the Virginia State Forum. Someone more local to you might have a better understanding of what might be in range, and what is not. To do that, click the Report link in the lower left corner of one of your posts, Enter a request that a moderator move the thread for you. Don't create a new thread in the state forum. Just request that this one be moved.

You also note that your father's SDS200 is picking things up. Maybe, as a test, load his Favorites list into your scanner & see if that changes things.

First check that you are within coverage, that the scanner can receive any of the sites.

Push Channel and enter the control channel frequency of the sites you think you can receive and push enter and it will be stored to the quick save department. After the Enter push it will show the edit menu and you go to Set Audio Type and set it to Analog Only and then push the menu button a couple of times until you come to Select Channel and then choose New Channel and enter the next control channel frequency and also enter the alternate control channel frequencies.

Set squelch to 0 and disable any priority mode and start scan and push the system button and wait 3 sec. Then push system again and turn the scroll button until you see Quick Save System. It's favorite list should be automatically enabled, but if not you'll need to add it to Scan Selection.

Now the scroll button will switch between your entered control channels. You will hear noise if you have no reception and you will hear a datasignal if you manage to receive anything from a site. Try different positions of the scanner and different locations in the house. If you hear no datasignal you probably need to get a better antenna. If you heard a faint data signal it could work with a better rubber antenna but you will probably need a bigger external antenna outside a window or on the roof.

The quick system will be using Global Filter as default so you can go into Menu and Settings and then Global Auto Filter and change filter type to try all the different ones except the Auto ones. Next setting to try are IFX and you then have to stop scan by pushing channel and then do Function+7 on a frequency.
If any of the different settings makes you receive a data signal then programmed that setting to the site in the system you have programmed and the set Global Auto filter to the setting you had before, probably Normal.

If you have a good data signal then it's time to check your programming of the system.

Here is a Page County favorites list file for you to try. It has just the trunked system with fire and sheriff. Save the zipped file to your computer and extract. Go to the File tab in Sentinel and click on Import from hpe file (Favorites List). Click on New Favorites List and name it: Page Co VA Click on OK. In the Downloads folder, open the extracted file (Page Co VA.hpe). It will appear as a favorites list in Sentinel.

You may want to keep the conventional frequencies if any in your present favorites list. I just wanted you to see how a trunked system is programmed. For your old favorites lists in Sentinel, set Download and Monitor to Off. For the new favorites list, set Download and Monitor to On. When you Write to Scanner, check the box to Erase Favorites Lists on Scanner. You will be scanning only the new Page Co VA trunked system. Please let us know how it works.

If your Dad’s SDS200 programming works, use that to program your SDS100.
