Hello all, I was curious about connecting my SDS200 to record, for my own use, the calls from our local trunked system (SEGARRN, Georgia). What is the easiest way to do so? I assume LAN is the way to go as it displays the data like channel names but my router and radio shack are in 2 different parts of the house. I have proscan installed, my PC does have an ethernet port but when I plug it into the SDS and into my PC it doesn't sense anything at all. Any ways to make this as easy as possible? SDS 200 LAN settings are auto, I have watched the youtube videos by Brian F but it seems to only work when connected to an actual router, As I said mine is in a different part of the house. I am not sure what to really do. My 996xt made it a heck of a lot easier.

Why not share your findings so others may learn? Isn't that what this forum is all about?
your right, its not working now but basically. My sds200 LAN settings are auto, i connected the LAN cable to my sds and then into my computer and i searched for the control panel, then network and internet, then connections. I have a wifi dongle into my pc that picks up our internet and i CTL+Right Clicked that and also the ethernet port connection that popped up and hit "Bridge" and it did work, until i wanted to route the cable where it wasn't in the way. It popped up on proscans IP scanner tab no problem when I hit set up URL

What month is it?
Key word is "LAN" Meaning it needs to be connected up to a LAN (network). Something needs to assign a lease/IP to the 200.

It is possible in Windows to turn your PC into a router (DHCP), but I'll leave that for you to investigate on your own if that is an option you'd like to explore.

As mentioned above all i really did was that and it worked somehow,i really have no idea how but it did. Now its not working again afyer just trying to tidy up the cable with the rest. Im positive that cable is good and theres no broken wires internal.

Try power cycling cycle the scanner.

LAN connections are confusing for many. It's always easiest to plug into a router and use DHCP to allow the device to "join" the network

There is a kind of work around for that, but requires knowing how to reserve an IP address or knowing what range of IP addresses the DHCP server is allowed to pass out.

Also, a PC isn't a LAN hub, which is why you had the PC act as a bridge.

You *should* be able to do what you want by hooking your PC's usb port to the radio and selecting serial connection rather than mass storage.

It was working before he rerouted the cable so the config is good. No sense in changing it now and besides, an audio cable would have to be added to the mix. When an active Ethernet connection is broken for more then 60 seconds, the scanner needs a power cycle to restore the Ethernet.

Yes it was, im not sure why but now proscan doesnt even sense the radio. My router is in another part of the home and i don't believe it can be moved nor coupd i move the SDS200 in that room. So thats why i figured i could bridge the ethernet device (sds200) to my wifi dongle and it should work. However its like it doesnt sense an IP or something. Im sure it would be easiest to plug direct to the router as people say, but the devices are in 2 different locations.

Is the Ethernet cable seated good both sides? Did you power cycled the scanner?

{edit} Check the scanner menu - Show IPs. Do you have IPs showing?
Yes it is, i believe i did power cycle the radio but im not sure. How exactly do I power cycle it?
Rotate the front top knob fully CCW. Wait for the SD write to complete then turn back on.

Ok, in that case the yes, the scanner is power cycled.

I do have an IP, subnet mask and a gateway showing. Setting is AUTO (DHCP)

That's good. Now go to the ProScan menu Comm Port. The port should be set to URL. Click the URL Setup button then Auto Detect. Click the row in the grid. Do the same with the audio. Go to the Audio Control - Recorder tab.

Nothing pops up in the auto detect screen, totally blank. Ethernet is plugged in and lights are on on the scanner as well as the PC. Even when typing the IP the scanner shows into the box does nothing. When I plug the ethernet in it shows it as "Unidentified network, no internet"

I have no ideal why that is but if it was working before, it must be something simple.

most likely, i used cmd and ipconfig pulls up another address than the scanner is displaying. Would that be it?
IPConfig shows the computer IP address. That command will not show the scanner IP address or other connected devices. Log in to the router to see if the scanner shows in the Attached Devices list.
