Apparently not for everybody.....

My experience with EVERY radio I have ever had that either had "Close Call" or "Signal Stalker" is that this is pretty much a hit-or-miss proposition. You have to be in the right place at the right time with the radio and antenna in the right orientation and in an otherwise clear signal field. It's certainly not 100% dependable, but it's a nice feature to have, when it works.

But it doesn't decode NXDN, P25, Tetra, etc. either.

So CloseCall is Analog only? I had hoped, somehow, someday, it would catch a Digi freq., thus me leaving it on. I'll turn it off now, and let my 996P2 do the Close Calling.
Sure wish they could get somebody in place to pep these things up. Nothing at all for the SDS series in years. Pitiful.

CC will only decode analog if you have it set to decode CTCSS/CDCSS.

If you want to decode digital modes, disable that.

On the original topic, wait time acts like this:

1. See a signal
2. Is it digital (and enabled in the scanner), if so decode and monitor
3. If no digital detected, is the wait time expired? Is so, monitor. If not, go to 3

So if you pick up an analog signal, it will wait the (wait time) to make sure it is not digital. After the timeout, it will monitor it as analog.

If you reduce the wait time, you will hear analog signals faster, but may hear undecoded digital data on digital signals.

If you increase the wait time, you will not hear data bursts, but may have to wait longer to hear analog signals while the scanner makes sure they are not digital.

The wait time only applies to MIXED channels. Analog will always open instantly (save CTCSS/CDCSS). Digital will never open except for digital modes.

For the SDS series, it should be always active. (display CTCSS/CDCSS and decode digital)

Where in the Sentinel do you see this setting for "Close Call"

All I see is; Attenuation, Modulation, Delay, Digital waiting time, Repeater Find, and Filter., Well, "Search keys" and Filter.

Eagerly awaiting this hidden info!

I was having trouble getting anything with Close Call on my two Uniden radios. I went into the Close Call options menu -> Set Attenuator. It was on. Turned that off and now Close Call finds stuff :). Just my 2 cents
