Turn off auto locate. That's probably why the scanner reboots. It will do that to reload the FLs you have programmed as the scanner detects changes in your location.

People say it's not supposed to do that, but my experience with long trips using the pre loaded Database is that it does it. It's not random, it's based on computer logic.
No need to do anything to do anything with the card.

In times past I would use the auto locate and it would tell me where I was, I took a fishing trip from my home(Montague) to Pittsfield and noticed that I was still scanning the Franklin County area instead of Berkshire and went to use the auto locate and it didn't work.

On your GPS puck not working -

What happens if you disconnect the puck, then manually change your zip code to 90210? You should have a "nothing to scan" message, or if using full database, some California "stuff". When you plug the GPS back in (and it has a clear view of the sky, etc.) it should start scanning stuff more appropriate to your current location.

Since the cable is your basic telephone cable, you might try swapping that out on chance the cable got pinched. Be the easiest fix.

(Auto-Locate is too darned cumbersome to be practical and only works on certain types of systems anyway. Be "more better" to figure out the zip code to where you are and then plug that in.)

Just be sure that the replacement is a four wire cable, and not the average cheap two wire cable you can find at a dollar store.

Ask me how I know.
