This may be a stupid question, however it’s a recent issue that started just a few days ago.

I have several SDS200’s, as well as an APX, and a Uniden G5. All of them scan the same systems. The APX obviously has no issues because it’s a system radio, the G5 also has no noticeable issues.

Recently, I took one of the SDS200’s on a roadtrip and noticed the scanner would show full bars when on the control channel. However, about 50% of the time it will see traffic on the system, flash the TG name off and on like it’s trying to listen, but drop to 0 bars until it goes back to the control channel. I thought this was weird, figured it was just an ENC TG, but the same issue happens on my home system (where my APX & G5 have no issues). I haven’t been around my other SDS200’s to see if they have the issues, but I plan on doing that very soon when able.

The main system back home is simulcast P25 P1, which I’ve never had issues in the past. The system I was scanning on the road was non-simulcast P25 P1, I was close enough to the tower to have full bars.

Has anyone else run into this issue? The SDS200 has performed really well in the past, and this is a sudden issue. I’m not sure if it’s programming related or not.

I would like to publicly apologize for my stupidity, I may or may not have had the squelch cranked on accident and didn’t notice. Brought that back down, all is well. 😂😂

Intermittent signal strength dropping off has been noticed and discussed.

The late Paul Opitz then Uniden Product Manager, reported this to be a normal situation as the scanner is doing "internal housekeeping",
