Hello, I recently purchased a sds200 scanner in the Dayton Ohio area, should I get pro voice? I feel like I’m missing out on some activity in west Dayton that’s going on? Or is it all encrypted? Thanks for your time, and help.

Welcome to RadioReference!

Large amount of information on here, and can take some time to understand it all...

As far as ProVoice update for the Dayton area; no entity uses it around the area, so you are good with not having it...
DMR (Trbo) would be money well spent; if you are interested in monitoring Business & School channels.....
NXDN - there are very few users around the area, so if you felt like you needed to throw some money at it...

What "activity" do you feel you are "missing" in the area..?

Welcome to the RR forums,
Don't bother with Provoice if you have no intentions on monitoring any of the following systems. The protocol has been long EOL'ed so no new systems will ever be coming online. I'm sure there are a few on this list slated for replacement anyhow (I know for a fact Lebanon County is)

Your county operates on the state trunked radio system. Program in the Dayton site, scroll down through the first link I provided and peruse through Montgomery County talkgroups (too many to list here) but good news is very little is encrypted (full encryption is denoted in the RRDB as mode "DE", mode "D" talkgroups are clear)

No, do not use the Dayton site; this is a single site used primarily for the local state correctional facilities and some other state agencies.

Use the Montgomery County simulcast; it has much better coverage throughout the county.
