When this was first an issue I was first to say they will take care of it, they need to nip it in the bud, it's going to cost them a lot of money to recall those radios already sold and shipped to dealers and delay release but what choice did they have. I was wrong.

Yup, agree, I watched for a while and saw that a lot of people seemed to be ok with buying something brand new for over $700.00 and send it in for repair right away but brand loyalty can be a powerful thing. I also use to M gear, XTS5000's and Astro Saber's and you're right, no scanner beatst them for audio punch.

As long as people will tolerate a radio having issues and buy it regardless, there's not a lot of motivation to fix it via recall etc. I imagine at some point new ones leaving the factory will have all the bugs worked out, I've just never been a fan of being a companies beta tester and with the level of buzz I have now, combined with the other items we've all experienced, that's how I feel... but we really have no other option so it is what it is. Especially here in simulcast hell Phoenix.

PS: I also have a SDS100, don't use it much, it doesn't hum (hint hint Uniden).

One thing I will say and I know I am probably extremely lucky. I Purchased a SDS200 and it was an older serial number that does not have the fix part installed in it. I have had it now for about a month and I have absolutely no hum. Well if I put my ear up to the external speaker I am using. I do hear a little hum. It is such a small very low hum. If it wasn’t for all the posts I wouldn’t even think anything of it. It actually doesn’t bother me at all. So I’m wondering if a lot of people could have received a radio that just doesn’t hum and it isn’t a problem for a lot of people.

Well Rodger this is like deja vu as I have read other post just like yours so that makes it even more egregious that some people don't have it at all and other people do. That's just not fair especially if you don't visit or enjoy casinos.

I have personally held my friends radio in my hands and listened to the hum even though it was mitigated and it is not what you were describing and I myself could never put up with that racket. We've also heard videos that clearly don't describe what you have. It's a noticeable hum.

Again this conversation we're having has been repeated over and over and over again

Now here's the big question... would you like to sell your radio? How much is it worth to you:ROFLMAO:.

You're a lucky man, I am glad for you and all the others that don't have the issue. I know you are enjoying your radios. I'm just not that lucky.

FWIW - mine was noisy from day 1, it had the part installed by Uniden, but it was over top of the black felt type tape. I removed the tape, cleaned well and it reduced, but still noticeable.

I played with various external speakers and found some are much worse. Slowly mine got worse. I ordered some 1/4" wide conductive copper tape. I removed the piece and wrapped it several times. I also ran tape all along the top of the chassis where the original felt stuff was and then taped over the part as well. I had enough tape wrapped around that it was a very tight fit.

It may still have a tiny amount of noise via an external speaker, but it is 99% less.

Nor am I, and I fully expect someone to chime in here anytime and say "if ya don't like it, send it in for repair, CLOSE THE THREAD"... eventually the sheep will stop drinking the Kool-Aid, I know this sheep's done being sheered, shorn.....

I thought we were friends.... I thought we were friends Uniden.....

I had to take mine out last night, I went in to see if it was even there.. I wrapped it in tin foil for the same reason. However I thought the point of that piece was to make a conductive ground path from the little shelf on the display board to the silver ledge the rear of it sits on that had the velvet strip on it. If you ran tape along the top of that ledge doesn't that defeat the purpose and are you now not just getting a ground via the internal silver case lid as it goes down, sounds like it didn't make a difference so good job I guess.... I guess I won't make a smart a comment about them not removing the felt.

Jen I hope this can be worked out to work for you as we know you are not a hater.(y)
Well... I wouldn't go quite thaaaaaat far. .;) I just like to complain a lot... it's all good, worse case scenario, I start turning on a white noise generator every time I want to listen to the scanner, but thanks... I appreciate your comment.

By the way, Happy Father's Day Guys, here's a link for you should you be listening to your SDS200's over the weekend.

Nice to get a little chuckle on such a terrible day for me. My wife passed away last night.

OHMYGAWD!!!!!!!! Do you have someone with you today? You're not alone are you? The last place you need to be today is sitting alone in a quiet dark room full of memories, interrupted only by a buzzing SDS with uneven keyboard backlighting..... in all seriousness, I hope you have someone with you.... and of course you're not "OK" so I"m not going to ask, I'm so sorry... was it expected? Did you have time to start the process of acceptance or was it sudden? I'm not religious, other than on special occasions, and this is one... my prayers are with you tonight hon...... we're all here if you need someone to chat with, distraction is the best medicine, especially when it's this raw/fresh.
