He said he would return the original one if something is wrong with it, which is what he should do. Nothing cheesy in that. It's $700.00! If it's defective that's whats cheesy. No fault of the dealer, but it should be replace or fully refunded. The dealer can square that up with Uniden.Kinda cheesy IMO, buying something with the intent to return it.
The dealer should check the S/N and make sure the defective one they get back is the same one they sold.
