This one has me stumped. As the title says, I can't get a connection from my computer to the SDS200 in MSM. But it connects fine using Sentinel. I also tried to connect laptop Proscan to SDS200 and that was also a no go. I then tried to connect my 996XT to Proscan on main computer and it connected fine. Anyone else have any ideas to fix this? One other thing, ever since I have had the radio it has always been difficult to get it to assign a com port to Proscan. After a few clicks on the auto detect button it would work. But now nothing. I'm thinking bad cable but if it connects using Sentinel I'm not so sure.

How are you trying to put the scanner in Mass Storage mode? Sending the MSM command through ProScan, or power cycling the scanner, or reinserting the USB cable and hit the "E" key?
When you click the Auto Detect button, does the port show Available every time and it's just the scanner type showing intermittently?

Doesn't show any port. Either none or URL. Once in while a popup will come up and say check if port 4 or 6 is being used by something else. But that is only occasionally.
greetings,
I've been fighting this and other grimilins the last two days. I too lost connectivity from my Lan. However, my issue was reading and writing to the SDS200 via Lan conection.
I had to enter the information physicaly (manualy) into the SDS200. Just for goo mesaure, I rebooted my router and Joy To The World, I ws back up and running. I havn't tried to read or write in fear that I lose connectivity again.
I don't know if this will help you, but just my recent work around. Hope you get her running

Thanks Vince. But this has nothing to do with a router. Just trying to connect USB to SDS200 in MSM to do favorite list updates using Proscan. Can connect using Sentinel. But Sentinel sucks for favorite list updates.

Does the scanner go into Mass Storage mode constantly? If yes then can you read the Favorites with ProScan?
If can not read the scanner SD card then see if File Explorer can.

The OS reports the comm. ports to ProScan so if not showing the scanner then it could be the USB cable but that doesn't explain why Sentinel is working unless Sentinel is intermittent too. A remote possibility is the scanner UART circuitry that is used for serial port communications.

If you have another USB cable, swap that in and see what happens.

Scanner has no problem going to MSM when I plug in the USB cable. I unplugged every USB device but the key board and mouse. Still no luck. Sentinel always works. I don't have a micro sd card reader but if the card is corrupted would I still be able to scan? I don't have an additional cable that fits the scanner. I have every other kind of cable of course. I can't read the favorites using Proscan.

Actually, can see favorite lists in file explorer under the G: drive.

Just so we're on the same page. Are you clicking on the Scanner Read item circled in red in the image? Does the Select Scanner window come up and does it show your scanner. As you probably know, the scanner needs to be in Mass Storage mode and not normal operation (or Serial Port mode).

Your way does work. This is the screen that doesn't work. When I press auto detect nothing happens. Or when I plug in the USB cable a window pops up and says "unable to communicate, check if other programs are using com port 6. I have seen it say the same thing about com port 4 also.

That's expected. Reading the Favorites when the scanner is in Mass Storage mode. Sentinel uses the same method.

This is the screen that doesn't work.
The Comm. Port setup screen is for when the scanner is in Serial Port mode. The scanner is always in Serial Port mode when it's operating normally and not in Mass Storage mode. ProScan uses the Serial Port mode for logging, virtual display & control. The Serial Port mode is not for reading or writing the Favorites.

{edit} Take the scanner out of Mass Storage mode then try the serial port Auto Detect.

A thanks to all of you who help me yesterday. I was able to get through my issues yesterday and even was able to download from RR and write to the scanner.
Feel more confident today. The SDS200 is a keeper! I was using my Icom R-8600 for my vhf/uhf scanning. Its very fast and I thought sensitive, but the SDS200 is kicking hinny on these ranges, plus the ability to monitor P25 phase 2 systems. I will be selling my Icom now.
Just one this I can't find in the manual (thanks dave) if I'm holding a system, is there an ability to manualy step through the "dept"?

I'm sure I will be with more questions, but thanks for your help. I I'm really loving Proscan.

On mine, it says "Favorites File Closed" and the options are all Grayed out. Can't even make it "Read from Scanner".

Yet, I have tried Sentinel and Arc500 and they work.

Ideas?

In the Favorites Editor, go to the File menu then click on Open or New. Select or type in a filename then hit the button. Now you should be able to read from scanner.
