I’m looking at buying the SDS 200, but I need to mount it in my patrol car. What have other people done mounting it in a Havis console? Havis discontinued there faceplate

I believe that Ham Radio Outlet sells mounting brackets specifically made for the SDS200. Whether your patrol car has room or not for that particular bracket, of course, I'm not sure. But over the years I have seem some pretty ingenious mounting solutions. Perhaps if you took a picture of your patrol car console and front seating area, you might get some useful suggestions.

Ok thank you, I tried to upload a photo but it won’t let me. It’s a havis console in a 2023 Ford explorer interceptor

I'd recommend an external speaker

Will your agency permit installation? Most usually have strict policies on what you may do to a vehicle etc...

Would it be possible to hide a bulky SDS200 under a seat or in the trunk and connetc it to a WiFi dongle and then use an external speaker at the driver and use a remote app like ProScan to view and control the scanner from a mobile phone or tablet in a holder on the dash, that can be easily taken with you not announcing that you have a scanner in your vehicle.

Does it necessarily have to be an SDS 200?
What about a 536 instead? Havis may still have a bracket for it.
I would also consider if something bad happened to the car then your loss wouldn't be quite as bad.

If you're worried about something happening to the car, don't put any scanner at all in it. As a matter of fact, don't drive it.

Regarding which radio, put the 200 in it. If you're going to that much trouble, be sure you're able to pick up everything, including simulcast.

I have a 536 and have constant issues with the selection knob. I’ve sent it in multiple times to get repaired, so hoping the 200 is better

I'd reach out to Havis to see if they have an alternative plate that might not be listed on their website. Seems really odd that they do not have an alternative listed given how prevalent the Uniden SDS200 is.

Not sure if the plates mount patterns are proprietary, but here's an older thread that might have some useful vendors for you:

I think most people who mount the scanner use the simple "U" bracket under the dash. There aren't enough people who need the "plate" to create a market for them.
