Searching for PL's and DPL's

Does anyone know how to search for PL's and DPL's on the Uniden BC250D??

when i select CTCSS or DCS it has another listing with a bunch of number on it (023,025, etc.)

Which one do i select??

I missed the music, must've been my tinnitus! Anyway, Don, Fmon was telling you how to program in a known code for a specified frequency and service. What you want is how to search. I don't own a 250D (I have a 796D), but would assume Uniden is Uniden. So in your manual try looking for a section called "Searching for subaudible tones". In my case I would hit the following to get to where you can turn on the search:

Menu
3 - System Option
8 - Sq Mode
3 - Tone Search

Then when you go back to scanning, when it locks on a freq it will scroll through the different tones until it locks on one. I do think you have to tell it whether to search for CTCSS or DCS codes (usually CTCSS). But some services do not use coding at all. When it finds the correct one, then the number will flash indicating such. If the transmission ends before it locks on the specific code, it will pick up its code search where it left off the next time a station keys up on that freq. Hope that helps.....Alan

I have the BC785D, the base model of the BC250D, and I would assume this function world the same on both.

Press Menu.
Rotate VFO Button to select:
3 - System Option - Hit Enter
8 - SQ Mode - Hit Enter
3 - Tone Search - Hit Enter

It will now search for the correct CTCSS (PL) and DCS (DPL) tones for all frequencies programmed.

If you want to search for the correct tone for one specific channel / frequency press Hold, the Channel Number, and Hold again. As soon as there is traffic on that channel it will begin searching. When it finds the correct tone, that tone number will flash. You may have to wait, if there are short transmissions, until the correct number flashes. When it does flash just press Enter and you're done.

When you are finished be sure to repeat the first set of steps I listed at the top, except that after you select 8 - SQ Mode, roatate the VFO knob to 2 - Tone SQ and hit enter. Your scanner will now only stop on a frequency if the correct tone is received.

By the way, number 1 - CSQ is for frequencies that don't have a PL tone. Just to let you know if you ever see one listed that way.

023 is the first DCS setting with 754 as the last. If you know the DCS of a freq, then rotate the VFO to that setting and press E. If in CTCSS, the numbers will be 67.0 as the low and 250.3 as the highest tone.

KT4HX provided the correct procedure for search of a tone, but Uniden scanners search for the tone very slowly, so you will likely not get a solution before the end of the transmission. Pro-95 is looking for a partner.

Ok heres what i found....

I looked online and found the origional Manual from the Motorola Site. reading the manual i found a table with the codes on it according to the dip switches.

for the PL code its a 5Z
DPL is a 162

How do you change it to search from a ctcss to dpl?
