The Mrs. and I are headed to Alaska next month and we have a layover at SeaTac. I have the airport frequencies, but I am also interested in listening to King County and Seattle public safety. What site of the KCERS system should I program to listen from the airport? Any help or insight is appreciated.

If you want to listen to Seattle PD and Seattle-specific TGIDs then you'll want to program in KCERS, Columbia Center -- Site 1. Be sure to use the rebanded band plan. Site 6 will only get you King County Sheriff and surrounding city dispatch channels.

For Sea-Tac, you'll want to program the Port of Seattle P25 Phase 2 system for airport traffic.

Also if you have time, scan from 163-174 and 406-420... for P25 conventional. Lock out any SYSID 715 stuff and keep scanning. Focus on P25 but there might be a little analog activity too.

When you get to Alaska you will find that almost all public safety radio is trunked and encrypted. Anchorage is all encrypted - even fire. Outlying fire districts are not to some extent. State troopers are encrypted. Aircraft and marine are about all that's left. I don't even bother to take a scanner up there anymore. Ham radio yes - lots of activity.

We will be in Juneau so there will be some public safety to listen to. I am looking forward to listening to some things we don't have where I live, such as marine frequencies. I am also looking forward to seeing what I can hear on HF up there. Thanks for the info.
