Hello I live out in Gig Harbor and I have a base scanner and a handheld scanner but no outside antenna. I have entered the seattle trunking system but the control channels wont reach out here. I have tried the King County/ValleyCom Simulcast system and that works for me. I can pick up the Seattle police dispatch channels fine but I cant pick up their TAC channels at all. I have the talkgroups programmed in. Is someone from Tacoma or Gig harbor using the King County/ValleyCom Simulcast system help me? Thanks. Does the King county TRS work for Seattle police TAC channels?
I moved here a year ago to washington and have been scanning for six years and never had a problem with trunking in california where I used to live.

The King County system is a Smartzone System, and has three "zones" - Seattle, King County/Valley Com, and EPSCA.

Not all the traffic on one "zone" of the system is carried on the other "zones" - unless there is a radio there that has affiliated with the site, and is dragging the traffic there.

It's very likely that the main Seattle channels are heard on KC/VC sites because a Seattle radio has affiliated with a KC/VC site. When the Seattle users switch to a TAC channel, it is much less likely that a radio has affiliated with that TAC channel on a KC/VC site - so, you are not hearing it.

Also, the system administrators have the ability to prevent certain talkgroups from being used on specific sites. It may be that the TAC channels you are trying to listen to are prohibited from being heard on the KC/VC portion of the system.

Just speculation....
