Anyone that is using SEATTY for decoding WEFAX care to share your settings? I have it installed and it is getting a signal from my radio but all I get is a black image fully of gray dots. At the bottom it always says "LPM Speed Detection Failed". Currently I have LPM at 60 and ICO at 576. I tried changing those and it seems to change them when a new fax starts. It does start and say "APT Tone Finished..." I have the receiver at 9.108.9 USB, Rx bandwidth at 15kHz, on USB.

Thanks

I'm assuming you're using the Boston frequencies based on that frequency. 9.110 Mhz is their "Assigned" (aka published) frequency. They recommend subtracting 1.9 kHz from that frequency to get the carrier frequency. Should be 9.108.1

I don't use SEATTY, but this may help.

I did see that and tried it but was still having problems. After poking around with it for a while, I just happened to look down at my radio (FTDX-3000) and I noticed the shift knob wasn't centered. When I started adjusting it, the display showed I had it shifted down 1000 Hz. Centered it up and BINGO! I have readable images. By this time, I had moved down to 4.317.9 (tuned down 1.9 to 4.316.0) and received a number of images.

I am trying SEATTY, but my bigest problem is being in a bad area for HF marine. SEATTY doesn't see my sound card either.
My fix is recording with SDR# then input the file. Next issue is I have NMC, NMG, NOJ frequencies and for hours I get the carrier where it should be but no modulation.
I have been using sorcerer for fax and som amateur stuff, but now on this new machine, it is problematic.
:(:(

I got some decent copy with Multi Psk and logged a few FT8 calls on 15/20 meters. My best fax freqs on Pt. Reyes and boston are just still too weak for any results.

A lot of newer laptops have no soundcard connections at all; you need a USB soundcard for this. Mine doesn't, and it's a relatively recent Dell/ This is the route I would need to take if I were using decoding software plus I'd likely need software to route the sound from the card to my input.

In some cases the soundcard connections are disabled by the manufacturer, but it's not that hard to enable them...a quick Google check will reveal the steps

This is on a HP-Z440 workstation with Audigy FX soundblaster.
RX setup on another PC is Airspy HF+ discovery. Line in works with Multi Psk on other modes.

To the OP: What is the make and model of your laptop? I strongly suspect all SeaTTY is doing is trying to make sense of the noise coming from your laptop. If you don't have jacks such as Line In or Mic In, then it's likely you don't have a soundcard. Like me, you would need a USB soundcard and a driver to reroute the sound to a port that SeaTTY would then use as input

If you do, then the soundcard has been disabled. I had an old Win7 laptop that had this, and it took a bit of digging to override it. A good Google search will unearth how to enable it

Easy test: Try piping your local AM station into your computer. If you don't hear it, neither will SeaTTY

[edit] Also say what OS you are running; win 8.x, Win 10, Win 11, etc.

I don't use a laptop. I have a Dell Precision T3600 Workstation with M-Audio AIR 192 Multi-Input sound card. In addition, my radio is a Yaesu FTDX-3000 which connects to the PC via USB and is another sound card. I have made thousands of FT-8, RTTY, and JT65 contacts so I know this setup works. SEATTY is a new piece of software to me and after I really dug into it, I realized it is pretty basic and doesn't have a lot of config options. I figured out that I had the audio passband shifted down from a few days before when I had been chatting with some friends and was trying to deal with crowded conditions. My biggest problem seems to be like Merlin's. I don't seem to be in a good area for marine HF reception.

I have my doubts about that. If the old 'be in a good area' phrase were true, folks on the East Coast couldn't hear New Zealand (yes, they can when propagation permits). It's possible you are in the skip zone for NMG, but NMF Boston should be easy, given decent propagation conditions. And even NMC Point Reyes should be possible if conditions are right

I have a strong feeling something has grabbed whatever soundcard you are trying to use, and not letting it go when the app is shut down.

There are support options for SeaTTY listed in the above message (see #7 in this thread). If you want to abandon SeaTTY, not to worry - there are LOTS of apps that can handle weather FAX. In fact I think - I could be wrong - that the well known FLDigi can, and I'm pretty certain MixW also can. Take a look here...

Good luck with your issue and happy holidays

Mike

I get decodes, they are just terrible and barely readable most of the time. I'm not new to computers or radio so I know when something grabs the soundcard. I am in a weird spot for radio. I don't work 20M because even if I hear a station 20 over S9, I usually can't work them. Tried 4 different antennas and no joy. Other bands are better but I have about given up on 20M..
