Security what do i need?

hey i am new to computers but know scanners some what thanks to this web site.and the great people out there. but my question is what kind of security do you need for your computer system. the only thing i am using is AVG free anti-virus free edition.is there other stuff i need?my computer is a old dell 2400. thanks.

Get rid of AVG, it's garbage and a resource hog. Install Microsoft Security Essentials instead (also free). You didn't mention what operating system you're running.
