I see that Sedona Fire district now dispatches calls for Pinewood, Verde Valley, Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Jerome, Camp Verde and others.

In the SWFD it shows the main dispatch channel as simplex. How is this so? I would have thought that they would certainly need a repeater to send calls out that far.

A repeater has to do with repeating mobile unit transmissions and has no direct relation to the reach of a dispatcher's transmissions, which can come from one of several distant towers (or from several simultaneous towers) even on a simplex frequency. Consider that virtually ALL of Phoenix FD's channels are simplex, including their main dispatch channel, and yet Phoenix dispatches agencies all across the valley (and beyond) on that channel. A simplex channel can still have multiple base transmitters and receivers (connected to the dispatcher by microwave, dedicated phone line, etc.) at far flung locations. It's just that the mobile units will not hear each other at far distances.
